You have to go to see these tapestries to quite appreciate how stunning they are. They are beautifully displayed (excellent curating). It is the sort of experience that makes you think to go back the next day.

Castelo de Marvao

Reviewed By Norman E - East Sussex

The castle occupies one end of the walled village of Marvao, which stands on the long and narrow top of a small steep sided mountain. The castle itself is small and would only be an average attraction were it not for the spectacular views that it, and indeed the whole perimeter of the village, offer the visitor. As a castle it is in fact a good example of the type of fortification that resulted from crusader experience, with a tall keep, strong curtain walls and a large water cistern to enable it to withstand a siege. A bit of History: Although Marvao changed hands between Moors and Portuguese more than once before the castle and outer fortifications were built no attempt to take the town by force succeeded afterwards. In 1762 a combined French & Spanish force of about 5,000 tried a frontal assault on town and castle, defended by a very small Portuguese and British force who beat them off. A walk around the castle battlements and the outer defences looking down at the possible approaches will give you a clear insight into how easily it was defended.

We have three children and we made it there because of the indoor pool. The reviews about the hotel were good and so we gave it a chance and found it wonderful. Great service and great accomodation. The kids loved it and so did we. We will come back for sure.

The Casa-Museu José Régio was the first house museum I visited. The experience could not have been better! The lady who accompanied us on the visit was super expressive, entertaining and included our participation in the visit in a spectacular way.
The house is filled with art with funny stories and organized as José Régio left it. If you have the opportunity please visit :)
Carpe Diem

Igreja de Sao Bernardo - Compreendendo o Tumulo de D. Jorge de Melo

Reviewed By FernandoAlmeida2013 - Lisbon, Portugal

Magnificent example of XVII century architectur!
I was really surprised to find out that it was not on Tripadvisor yet!
Together with others Fortes this one shows very geometric structure, very interesting. Also there is a military museum inside for the same fee.
It is very easy to access by car and cheap to visit.
It is considered World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
Staff was very helpful!

Muralhas do Castelo de Portalegre

Não deixam de ser interessantes e nos dar uma paisagem agradável, mas carecem de melhor estado de conservação. Maior destaque o casarío branco, a boa maneira do Alentejo.
