Nördlingen is a town in the Donau-Ries district, in Swabia, Bavaria, Germany, with a population of approximately 19,190. It was first mentioned in recorded history in 898, and in 1998 the town celebrated its 1100th anniversary. The town was the location of two battles during the Thirty Years' War, which took place between 1618–1648. Today it is one of only three towns in Germany that still has a completely established city wall, the other two being Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Dinkelsbühl.

If you are visiting Nordlingen and St. George's Church, don't miss out on a chance to climb the church tower (Walk to the outside, rear of the church to find the tower entrance - costs €3,50/person)
You will be rewarded with some great views overlooking the town and surrounding area. Also at the top, and with some imagination, you can make out the outline of the large impact crater in which the town is situated.....very interesting history!
And if you are lucky, you may even see the tower's resident cat.

Nördlingen is built inside a depression that is the remnant of an ancient impact crater. Thus, the city walls form an almost perfect circle around the old city. These medieval walls are largely intact (or restored), and one can walk along the entire length of the walls. The pathway is covered, so it provides cover from rain and sun. Highly recommended!

The most striking feature on this medieval Gothic church is its 300-foot bell tower, which towers over the village.
We stopped in this walled city to specifically visit this church. Their Christmas Market was setting up just outside and I've been enjoying that from town to town. Every single church we have been in offers something special to see. This one did not disappoint and it just so happens to be the only one (so far) that has had their nativity set up.

There are a number of towers and bastions on the intact walls of Nordlingen. It is lovely to walk the length of the walls always admiring the church of St Georg right in the centre. There is a cafe with a little Terrace and a museum to entertain one on the way around.

Bavaria is a region full of really beautiful town halls. Nördlingen's is one of the least interesting. It lacks color, decoration or architectural flair. As a symbol for the town, most of the others have features and designs that make them memorable. Nördlingen's is forgettable.

Dom Chleba i Tańca to taka ludowa świetlica, w której na przestrzeni wieków odbywały sie kulturalne spotkania, wieczornice, wesela, chrzciny, stypy pogrzebowe. W czasach historycznych był to młyn i skład mąki i kasz. Dziś to siedziba sal użytkowych oraz kilku miejskich urzędów. Małe miasteczko Nordlingen miało szczęście ocaleć podczas II wojny światowej. Raduje nas naprawdę średniowieczną atmosferą. Chce się tu wracać.

This Fountain is situated beside St. George's Dom, in Nordlingen's Marktplatz. Note the interesting details on this Fountain.....and enjoy the bustle of activity in this picturesque square.

Located in one of the gates in the wall that still surrounds the old town, the museum offers fascinating insight into the history of the town and of the region. Particularly interesting is the information about the Battle of Alersheim, which was held in the Ries, the region in which Noerdlingen is located. Well worth a visit.

seven euros entry and to be honest you can see more for free at the NYMR! There is a lot of rolling stock but it's badly presented and doesn't give the impression of a thriving museum but rather of one in decline. There is some interesting stuff to see but I wouldn't make another effort to visit this.
