Isola delle Correnti

Reviewed By VCB_10 - Great Torrington, United Kingdom

Straightforward enough to find, and a pleasant walk along the beach from the small car park to the sunken causeway that leads to the Isola delle Correnti and thus the southernmost point of Sicily, and thus Italy; some 5,500km from Trieste in northern Italy. Great care is needed if thinking of crossing to the 'island', can be pretty dangerous. Standing here, you're at a slightly lower Latitude than Tunis in north Africa.
You have a sense of history in the area as it was here where Allied forces landed in July 1943 and began their move to liberate Nazi-fascist occupied Italy, commemorated each year on the 25 April.

Isola di Capo Passero

Reviewed By jcrossBdV - Didcot, United Kingdom

I would have liked to walk or swim to the island, but we could not find the shallow stretch linking it to the Mainland, probably wrong time of the day, although later we met some girls who made it across (swimming). We easily found a boat that takes people to and from the island, at a reasonable price (5 euro adults, 2.5 euro children), and we got about two hours in the middle of the day to spend on the island. The first thing you find is the building that used to be the tonnara. It looks like it had been abandoned a long time ago, but there were still nets in decent condition lying around... puzzling. Past the tonnara there is a path that takes you to the other end of the island. This is lovely, in the middle of dwarf palm trees, dark green against the blue of the sea with splashed of golden sand. At the other end of the island there is a religious statue and a building which is nearly as puzzling as the tonnara: completely locked up, not easy to reach, but with a stair lift to get to the (locked) entrance. The walk is not going to take more than an hour... the rest of the time can be spent on the sandy beach facing Portopalo. This is the place where people can walk to when the tide is low.

Reviewed By VCB_10 - Great Torrington, United Kingdom

San Lorenzo is a little north of Marzamemi itself and although has one main beach, there are some adjacent smaller ones. Some facilities reasonably close by and parking is usually no problem. Unlike some Beaches I've experienced on Sicily, San Lorenzo is by and large, rubbish free. Beaches aside, there is a lovely coastal walk that can take you into the Riserva Faunistica with its tonnara, and wealth of flora and fauna.

Baia Kaibo

I love this place! It is amazing. The people who run it are fantastic, the wine is great, the salads are great and the fresh fish is the main attraction. It also serves some of the nicest coffee we had!
Beautiful beach with golden sand and clear water. We spent most of our 10 day holiday here and enjoyed every minute.
Great facilities with clean water showers, toilets, changing rooms and lots of shady places.
I seriously recommend this place if you enjoy swimming, sunbathing, eating and drinking, they have a wonderful looking cocktail list but didn't try as we were driving :-(
Also the prices were very reasonable compared to other Beaches we saw!

Riserva Naturale di Vendicari

Reviewed By mrsirin - Washington

As reviewers have noted, the narrow, semi-paved lane off the highway barely allows two cars to pass, and the unpaved car park is down a steep, rocky incline. Still, the nature reserve area has many walking paths, and there's a viewing area where you can see flamingos. You can also walk through the remains of an old tuna processing plant; wade into the clear water from the slightly sulfurous beach; or enjoy a glass of wine and a snack at a couple of small places just off the path to the beach.
