Treasures abound throughout the headlands and rugged cliffs of Cape Breton Highlands with its abundant wildlife, spectacular scenery and human history dating back to the last Ice Age.
One of the most beautiful national parks not only in Canada but the world! Breathtaking views around almost every corner along the scenic Cabot Trail highway which winds its way around the Cape Breton Highlands, the highest peaks in Nova Scotia. You often won't believe your eyes when seeing the incredible natural beauty of Cape Breton Island against the mighty Atlantic Ocean. Plenty of trails, side roads, Beaches and waysides to keep you busy. Exploring attractions in the various villages along the way including the French Acadian port of Cheticamp can enrich your cultural knowledge of the region. If you can only visit one national park in Canada, this is definitely the one!

To get to the trailhead is a little confusing, but yes, you do drive through the country club. This was the BEST hiking we did on our whole trip. Various climbs, wooded forest, wind-swept grassy knolls surrounded on both sides by the ocean...it was incredible. The hike is described as intermediate, but some of the climbs were quite taxing if you're out of shape/young/elderly, and some do go on for a quarter mile or so. A must do if you're in the area.

Cape Smokey Provincial Park in Cape Breton Island offers grand views of the Atlantic the the coastal hills bedecked in flashing autumn foliage. We visited on October 14 and the timing was perfect as it was peak foliage. Take your picnic basket if it is a sunny day.

Low falls. Nice walk after long drive on dirt road. Some young adults were getting in water at pool at bottom. Not handicapped accessible.

Trailhead is well marked off dirt road going to Warren Lake, just north on Ingonish. Mildly steep hike with 500 ft, gain. 1 hour round trip. View is very nice at top, but only of cove, not the entire coastline. See national park map for details.

This is one of the many trails in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, an easy loop < 1 km on well maintained boardwalk, enjoyable by people of all fitness levels. There are placards throughout the trail with information about bog plants, animals, conservation. Short and enjoyable, it's not a must-do per se, but we did this as one of 4 trails in a day and do not regret it. I would imagine it would be beautiful in the springtime with flowers in bloom! Please remember to always remain on the boardwalk and do not step on the sensitive bog environment. We also did the Lone Shieling and Skyline trails which are close to this trail.

When I entered into the Ingonish Information Centre, I was astonished by the many large pictures from the Cabot trail. It made us want to go and see more trails.
I asked for help about a certain attraction. The clerk was super nice and helpful. I love the people of Nova Scotia. They are always so nice.

This beach is quite unique. First of all, it is a beach filled with natural sand. Perfect for people who like Beaches. However, behind the beach, there is a forest. Those who come here, have the choice to either stay on the beach or enjoying the forest. Everybody is happy.
There is an expensive home on that beach. These people are able to enjoy the beach and ocean all year long. Wow!
