Thomas Tosh is a great place for a quick break, brunch or lunch. We've fairtrade tea, coffee, delicious cakes and scones baked on the premises, and a changing lunch menu at very reasonable prices. We also work hard to cater for all dietary needs.
Stopped of for a quick cuppa whist visiting friends, nice coffee shop with lovely cakes, soup and light meals looked good too.
Some unusual bits and bobs to buy from a nicely presented gift shop, bits of pottery, some lovely glassware, a few toys, bits of jewlry, candles and soaps etc

Penpont tea room We visited this small village tea room at the end of a river walk on a lovely spring day. The walk starts just down the road from the tea room, passed the garage, over the bridge and the path starts just to the left. Follow the path next to the river and then turn right at the end and right at the T junction. It takes around 2 hours. The tea room is shared with the village Post Office and run by 2 ladies that make all their own cakes. Prices were very respectable and they're very used to walkers, even keeping cold bottles of tap water in the fridge. Generally a great little find.
Stopped on journey looking for a coffee and couldn't have been luckier, good coffee, friendly staff and lots of choice on the menu plenty of vegetarian options. Will definitely make this a stopping point on journeys down to Galloway, interesting village.

Firstly you enjoy a drink in the lounge with complimentary olives. The menu changes continually, you have a choice of 4 starters / mains / Deserts, £25 for two course, £35 for 3, desert includes coffee - which you can have again relaxing in the lounge. It's not a cheap place, bargain hunters look elsewhere, but for a romatic / celebration blowout, it's the business. Between relaxing in the lounge pre and post meal and the meal itself, we were there for 3 hours and you are never rushed. The food is excellent, the service attentive but discreet, not fawning over you like some places can. They also do large groups, 15 dentists / medics who were at uni together 30 years ago were in and were clearly having a good time. All of this in a period hotel with grounds setting, so if dry a great place for a relaxing stroll.

Not having booked, we were very pleased that on both Friday and Saturday evenings we were able to get a table - for seven and five people respectively. Both times we had a round table which we much prefer as it's easier to all talk to each other. And - a big plus - our ears were not pounded by muzak.
The restaurant was busy both nights and the waitresses were run off their feet - but they still provided a friendly, excellent service.
Between us we sampled a variety of dishes - the lamb, duck and sea bass are definitely recommended. The lasagne was disappointing as it came in small pudding shaped dish and wasn't especially tasty either.
There isn't much choice of eating places in Thornhill at dinner time and this one is recommended.

This was a return visit for my wife and I to this lovely restaurant. Previously we had only had lunch but it had been so good we were determined to come back and try dinner. The welcome from the staff is warm and genuine. We were shown to our table as soon as we arrived & offered drinks while we considered the menu. The starters varied from soup to grouse (which was delicious). The main courses again gave us a choice from standard fare to some rather fabulous rabbit and venison dishes. Throughout the meal the servers were attentive and helpful without interfering with our enjoyment of the dishes. We finished with a lovely pudding course and then allowed to sit and enjoy our drinks. I cannot recommend this highly enough for either lunch or dinner. My wife & I were there for our anniversary & we felt that it was a special meal. Well done to all involved.

A great find in this tiny pretty village. Excellent quality food and friendly staff. The scallops were cooked to perfection and the seafood risotto a real treat. Loads of mussels prawns and squid. The place was buzzing and atmosphere was lovely. Definitely recommend.

On holiday in Thornhill and having read previous reviews decided to visit. Thank goodness we did. Great welcome from the owner and the scones are fantastic (even the tattie scones which my partner had). We were amused by the quirky wallpaper. You can't go to Thornhill without calling at Jinty B's

How do you tell a good baker ? You look at the queue to get in ! Tables are full with locals having breakfast ,tradesmen dropping in for a bite to eat .Its part of a group of shops throughout Dumfrieshire and the quality is assured . The morning rolls are superb
