Xiqiao Mountain National Forest Park

This place is amazing! It looks so much better than the photos. If you are in Foshan or even Guangzhou this place is worth going to. It took 3 hours from Guangzhou by metro and bus (Jihua Park then bus 226 all the way to Xiqiao Mountain). The entry fee is 70rmb each. Kids under 1.2m are free. I caught the sight seeing bus and I am so glad I did. It is a huge walk up the mountain and would have taken too long with my five year old. The tickets for the sight seeing bus are 20rmb and 10rmb for kids between 1.2m and 1.5m. Kids under 1.2m are free. There are only a few places to eat so I think it is better to take your own food. Unfortunately the weather wasn't too good today but on a clear day the views would be spectacular! You can even go inside the statue and look around at the carvings and buddha statues. I loved it.

I visited this place three times with families and friends. They all loved it. The kiln is big. There's an old residential village nearby. A museum of clay and porcelain within the area is free, small but well managed compare with most museums in small citues in China. There's a workshop for families on clay.

This Ming Dynasty, traditional South China garden-park has many sections, including Wooden House, Fairyland Hall, Guiji House, Bamboo Garden, Study House, Luifen House, Time-cherishing Study, Boat House, and Chengyi Pavilion. It is a paradise of beautiful Lingnan-style architecture, buildings, walkways, Gardens, trees, beautiful Bridges, pavilions, courtyards, lakes, ponds, Koi fish, and more.
There are hundreds, and maybe thousands, of beautiful Koi fish in the water. When people throw food onto the water, they gather together and look as if they are forced together by a big net.
Foreign visitors have to pay an entry fee of 15 rmb, with those over 60 tears of age are free. No fee for Chinese citizens. I saw two conflicting signs, one saying that the park is open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, and the other 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Foshan Lingnan Tiandi

Reviewed By alvin197 - Hong Kong, China

I stumbled upon this area a few years ago and returned with my wife for a restful weekend. It is a nice area of historical Lingan styled buildings, with nice grey brick walls, and ethnically unique arches, zoned for food and beverage/entertainment, to protect the area from conversion into commercial high-rises. The few blocks of streets are lined with trees. It was hot summer but we stayed cool under the shades.
The buildings and alleys are very picturesque and most of them are converted to be cafes and restaurants. We stayed for 2 days and tried a few restaurants. The food was hit and miss despite the high price tag for China, but it was a pleasure to sit in the old mansions to slowly enjoy a meal. There were many local visitors but not too crowded. Everyone seemed relaxed that there was no panic, queue-jumping behaviour.
It was a great wander around place. It was charming to see the mansions and courtyard with trees during the day. And the nice restaurant/bar scene in the evening.

This park is only 12 years old. Compared to some other Chinese parks, it’s a baby. It is located at the foot of Taiping Mountain in Foshan City. The park has an enormous traditional Chinese architectural paifang with three arches. In front of the paifang are five arch Bridges that make an extravagant entrance to the park.
Sometimes they hold Concerts there because the park is spacious. You can ride a bike, jog and stroll around. The park is superb for photos with a pagoda, lake, temple, paifang and arch Bridges. We spent a relaxing hour there.

We went just before the schools broke up in China, but it was an amazing summer's day, completely clear skies but not too hot. There were plenty of rides which were all open-no random closed attractions without notice, like in many theme parks in the UK and other places I've been to. We went as the place opened with our two day pass to both the water park and Chimelong Paradise, and found that we hardly had to wait five minutes before going on the Dive Coaster. I love how long each of the rollercoaster's are-the Ten Inversion Rollercoaster does go by quite quickly but the ten loops make for an exhilarating feeling, especially if you're on the front row!
The motorbike speed coaster was incredibly fast (and felt a lot like Stealth, since the rollercoasters are made from the same company) and riding on the motorbike made me feel like I was going to fall off at any second, but I wish it had gone a little bit higher. Once again, the food exceeded our expectations-we had a pork dish with rice as well as some delicious lemon juice which, although being a little pricey, was still amazing and enough for two people.
The longest waiting time we had for any of the rollercoasters was only an hour, and that was not even for the most scary ride! The staff were very nice and honestly I had a fantastic experience. The fact that there are seats for the queues is great as well! Can't wait to come back someday.

Sun Yat-sen University

I was invited for a lecture at Sun Yat-Sen University and stayed at the Sun Yat-Sen Kaifeng hotel on campus. The university is one of the top universities in China, and the campus is rich in history with some old buildings including where Sun Yat-Sen delivered his famous speech to the students, telling them to do for their country and keep distance from politics. The hotel is excellent. I had a corner suite overlooking the Pearl River, a magnificent view after dark. Breakfast was rich although most of the dishes were Chinese.
