This is a good size restaurant. The food was mediocore. The services was absolutely horrid. We requested more vinegar, the waitress responded there was no more vinegar in the restaurant. We requested to have fresh plate for the roast duck after several courses that were sauce heavy. We were told there were no more plates and we had to scrap off the scraps on our plate. I had never experienced this kind of customer services. In this case, I would prefer having no services at all. In my view, the 1 star rating is too generous for this restaurant.

You can't go far wrong if you eat where the locals eat, and this place does not disappoint. For around 20RMB they give you one basket of at least 10 xiaolongbao, with a whole list of variations to choose from. Definitely worth a visit.

N34°47'42.5" E114°20'45.9" (WGS-84) On Sihou Jie number 9, not 43 according to the Rough Guide, this restaurant is famous for Kaifeng’s own take on the humble baozi; flat and circular, they look a little like wagon wheels. The ones served here are utterly delectable, though often take up to 30 minutes to prepare. There are six different varieties available, of which the seafood (haimi) for RMB25 are the tastiest. Dumplings aside, there is a full menu of Chinese staples to choose from if you can read and speak Chinese.
Communicating with hand signals and smartphone translator in August 2017, we ordered spinach with garlic, fish soup with small fish and ten pieces of seafood baozi. The fish soup was spicy with coriander, resulting in a lovely combination of flavours. The spinach with garlic was great. After 30 minutes waiting, the baozi haimi arrived, which tasted excellent. We enjoyed the food.
Diyi Lou restaurant is divided in a left and right section. The guests in the left section, probably paying more, are entertained with live Performances of Chinese singers at high volume. The guests in the right section have to withstand the volume, but it does not detract them from the excellent food on offer. Recommended.

As it is so popular in Kaifeng, the restaurant is always packed with locals and tourists both from inland and abroad. There are a few floors in this big restaurant. We were asked to move up to the 3rd floor as the lower floors were packed with tour groups. This floor normally serve local customers.
As usual, the packed restaurant during lunch hour was very noisy. Service-wise is slow and attendants not so friendly. Pricewise was cheap.
The best dish here (which is the signature dish) is dumpling (siao-long-bao)- However tipping sauce was not so good. Other dishes we ordered were not to our taste mainly due to the different in the style of cooking between the southern China and the central China. Nonetheless, foreigner should at least try the local dishes for once if one happen to be in Kaifeng as this restaurant is considered to be the best restaurant there.

Peccato!
