Amazing to see how the palace was built without nails and that the beams that support the minangkabau building are slanted. This design is to withstand the earthquake that are prevalent in Indonesia. Very colourfull and intricate carvings and one can feel the granduer of the ruler sitting in the centre palace and be able to view whos coming to meet him from his throne.
You need about 45 minutes to go through the palace.

Sionak Canyon is a beautiful canyon that can be viewed from the main town square of Bukittinggi. It is very impressive and can actually be accessed by walking down a steep path from the town centre down to the river bed, however, only do this if you are fit as the walk is a little tough. One of the unusual features is that of Takuruang Hill which is an isolated rock that stands vertically someway down the canyon and can be seen when crossing a small bridge just out of town. Behind the hill are jungle covered hills. This is a really exciting place to see and to explore.

The clock is given by Dutch queen to Bukittinggi. Only two machines of clocks are in the world. One is Bigben London and Bukittinggi Clock.
You can walk around and enjoy the sightseeing. You will find people doing jogging or sport around the clock. You can buy gifts around too.

Our experience here was marred by the "tourist guide" whom wanted to charge exorbitant "fees" on top of the entrance fees. When we declined, they threatened us that we might face "trouble" in the tunnel. We took off and did not explore further

I wont say that it is a mountain peak. It is fairly wide peak. You will have to walk quite a bit on flat ground surrounded by lava pools (very far from the track.no worries) to reach the actual peak. The view towards and on top of the peak is spactacular. The peak is fairly small area at most only 3 people can stand there but it make the hike so worthwhile. We paid a local guide, a student from the nearby university to bring us. Around RM90. We enjoyed the hike as well as the scenery.

It's old. Exactly 3 years old in 2016 ;-)
Actually it's a set of stairs connecting a village of Koto Gadang with outskirts of Bukittingi - 1.7 kilometres long. It was constructed with the Great Wall of China in mind, in smaller version as you might expect :-) Probably quite tiring when going up, we were lucky to be going down. Some nice views, macaques and squirells can be spotted on the way. It's not a great attraction for a foreigner but it makes you smile :-)

This is not an attraction yet. Jenjang Seribu is located at Sianok Canyon Bukittinggi. Jenjang Seribu means a thousand steps stair. The stair connects the valley and the view point on the top. When we visit we di not meet visitors and the toilet were out of order.

Easily spotted from the street makes a nice view for photos. Don't go to the bridge itself as this means you enter Fort de Kock and support the pathetic zoo. Not a historic place as it was built in 1995.
