It is a strange thing but in the heartland of coffee growing, it is not easy to find a good coffee shop. Bedudal Cafe staff have been looking after western tourists for decades and they know the area backwards. Their advice and knowledge is worth far more than the cost of the coffee and I would encourage anyone new to the area to make a b-line for this spot and talk to the friendly staff.

We met Wendra in the restaurant over a cup of lovely chai. We booked a tour with him and It was wonderful! We went trought beautiful nature, hills, villages and ricefields. We stayed at a homestay where the family cooked us a delicious meal. We bathed in a little waterfall and when we woke up there was a gibbon sitting in our window! So much more to tell. I had the time of my life! Thank you Wendra!

This place is located right at the main square (the one with the clocktower). Popular with locals which is always a good sign. Probably one of the best places to try typical Padang cuisine - traditionally you are given a bunch of small plates with what's on offer on a particular day. You choose the ones you want and pay only for them. Not much English is spoken but if you know some Indonesian dishes you should be OK with a choice. Rendang was particularly tasty, chicken was also good, shrimps were not our favourites. You can also have some vegetables, salads and sauces of your choice. And of course a big bowl of rice is served with the food. For foreigners the interior may not look very attractive and clean, but we thing it was quite OK. We filled our bellies (some food was left on plates) and paid less than 60 thousand rupia for 2 persons, including tea and water. Great culinary experience which costed next to nothing. We encourage you to visit.

European style cafe/bistro restaurant serving freshly cooked internationsal and local Indonesian cuisine, in the centre of the popular tourist destination of Bukittinggi, Indonesia. This is the place to go in Bukittinggi to enjoy a memorable meal out at very reasonable cost. If you want to know more about the food, Nita, the cafe owner will arrange a private cooking class for you, so that you can enjoy Indonesian cuisine once you get home.
We went to Turret cafe as vegetarians, unsure of whether we'll be able to find vegetarian food in Bukittinggi. The menu here has many Western dishes, but we wanted Indonesian dishes, so we requested the owner Anita if she can make sayur lodeh, a vegetable coconut curry and sambal eggplant, neither of which are on the menu. She said sure, and although she didn't have any eggplant in the kitchen, sent her son to buy some. We had the most delicious onion soup, sayur lodeh, and sambal eggplant here. We came back the next night and had another great meal, but unfortunately Anita was out of town the following two nights. The food takes some time to arrive, but that's because it's prepared completely from scratch. If you are in Bukittinggi, you won't go wrong if you come here everyday.

On the main highway going to Pagaruyuang Palace from Bikittingi, before village Pandai Sikek, about 10 kilometers away from Bukittingi, this place is located. This is small shop where they make fresh Pan Cakes- with Coconuts, and with Bananas.
They put mashed paste in the form of small cakes in an half-spherical shape urthen pot. It is then covered with another urthen pot with burning fire in it. This gives enough heat to the pan cakes put in the earthen pots below it. The cakes become crispy on outer side and remians soft from inside. They are sweet, and delicious. Fresh warm cakes are best but they can be eaten even on next day.

basically they serve some chinese food like 'char koay' and chinese tea.there is also western food and local food. they promoted that this restaurant serves healthy food maybe they want to show other varieties because Bukittinggi is very well known with rendang which is high in calory and it is situated in chinese village so this is the place if you want to find some chinese food.

TARUKO caferesto is not just a regular cafe and restaurant, but a dining place with natural atmosphere located in the middle of terraces rice fields in Emerald green of Sianok canyon. The fresh mountain air will make visitors feel comfortable and relaxed. In addition to serving delicious traditional Minangkabau Cuisine, Indonesian food, Chinese food, Thai food, Indian food and Western food, TARUKO caferesto also has a beautiful garden, a small swimming pool for kids and children's playground. Gurgling sound of water flowing in the crystal-clear river at the edge of the restaurant will accompany you enjoying the dishes served in interesting and friendly way.
As others have noted, this place is a bit out of town and well worth the drive! The views in every direction are exceptional. GREAT place for breakfast even though I was not enthralled with the special Taruko coffee. The banana pancake was delicious and other dishes ordered by our Indonesian (Balinese) friend were also really good. Most of all, though, the setting cannot be beat!

They are supposedly famous for the ayam pop. To be honest we did not find that dish particularly tasty. Just as well as rendang and some dish with noodles, tofu, bean sprouts and peanut sauce (ketoprak? although we asked for gado-gado). Quite poor I must say, in comparison to other place we tried in Bukittinggi. The other minus: we felt overcharged - yes, we didn't ask the prices but the Padang cuisine style restaurants are not very expensive and our bill was just too much in my opinion. So if you still decide to eat here, ask for the prices of dishes. We left strongly dissapointed and would not recommend it to fellow travellers.
