All the other reviews are correct: it is the best coffee place in town! It's small, owner managed and offers exceptional bagels and cookies to go with the very good coffee. Who needs Starbucks?

We dined at the Messmer Restaurant in Lochau on 3 consecutive nights in November 2008. Choice of food: excellent Quality of food: excellent Service: excellent Atmosphere: excellent Prices: excellent. Important for non-smokers: they have non-smoking rooms in the restaurant! Highly-highly-highly recommended!

We have stopped in this place for a dinner after Reading reviews from Tripadvisor 4/5. Surprise we were very disappointed!! Here are the main reasons:
1. Service very hectic and chaotic: no easy to get a table / wine came after the Salads..dressing was forgotten.. we had to ask the waitress to bring it..
2. Food doesn't taste like in Italian place / Pizza which is the easiest Italian meal wasn't successful..
3. The sauce offered with the Pizza taste more Indian than Italian/ first time I saw the ingredient curry added into Italian foods !!! Terrible
4. The dessert and espresso were at least good
5. We had to ask three times to pay.. finally the bill comes after 10min. The waitress was not very motivated doing what she had to do!!
In my opinion places with a lot of tourists should be avoided b/c of lack of quality and service..

Just as remarkable as the architecture are the culinary delights on offer at the Bregenz Festival House restaurant buehnedrei right by the lake. With its clear lines and plentiful natural light, the modern architecture ensures a pleasant ambience for every occasion. And in summer the spacious sun Terrace offers a wonderful point from which to observe the goings-on on the Platz der Wiener Symphoniker. The menu offers a well-selected range of food and drink with regional specialities. Equally popular: the good-value lunchtime dishes. These are served every day between 12 noon and 2 pm. Here you can savour the current week's menu in advance! In the evening buehnedrei changes into a bar with a diverse cocktail list. Given there are always 'limitations' to do with delivering good food with 'speed' before a performance at any venue in the world, one could do a lot worse than consider choosing the convenience of dining here beforehand--then only needing to walk a very short distance to the entry of the venue itself! Looks good & a smiling welcome.
But ambitions were not quite matched by seamlessness, even though on the whole, the helpful, friendly staff certainly did try!
Silly things like beginning the dinner by ordering two starters TO SHARE at a table of six diners..& no individual plates NOR any utensils provided either with which to eat the food nor to dispense it!...& of course an unwanted DELAY ensued.
& so having ALSO to ask for condiments, more bread & water..& finally no one alert to us needing to pay the bill to GO promptly all take the gloss of one's dinner experience.
My main, two (!) tasty beeksteak pieces , were nearly accurately cooked -- but curiously & disappointingly the chef didn't cook the generous serve of local boiled carrots long enough-- nearly RAW-- but overdid the liquidizing of the mashed potatoes. A bit 'sloppy'....
Others did less successfully ordering the noodles with crispy duck (sounds nice) but Oh NO! ... they had sliced through the (overcooked) noodles like for a child to eat!...& no chopsticks! Another case where Asian food attempted by European cooks rarely succeeds.....too sweet also...Bad choice, that one
Nice wine card , prices ok & coffee also ok & came promptly enough... but how frustrating trying to get the bill to pay & leave in good time to use the loo & get seated.

We wanted a typical Austrian menu, Vienna schnitzel and potato salad with Kaisercshmann ? for desert...... we got it.!!
Fantastic food in a very pleasant atmosphere with prices below the expected.
The staff were very friendly and even offered our Parsons terrier dog food and water....this she loved.
I can highly recommend this Resturant.

We went here die to the great TA reviews. Friendly staff and rustic interior. The food is heavy. I had a chicken schnitzel (very generous portion - 2 breasts, very soft). Salad had potatoes. we also tried the boiler beef - served with a small bowl of models and a saucepan of beef broth with very soft beef. Had local beer and a Diet Coke. Had to try the apfel strudel. The bill came to a very reasonable €44 for a very generous portion of tasty food. Work checking out.

Bavarian cuisine
During a recent holiday we ate here on 3 evenings. As in previous visits the food is excellent, and the staff friendly and efficient. We always enjoy eating here when visiting Lindau and would not hesitate to recommended. Booking advisable to avoid disappointment.

We chose this restaurant because it was rated 1st and were quite deceived by the food. Quite average. Food was served outside, in the biergarten, which is nice during warm evenings. However the bar was far away and waiting time for drink was quite long. Food on the contrary arrived right away after the order.

We liked our visit a lot. Service was extremely attentive, friendly and prompt. We've got plenty of help with our food and wine choices, and everything was a step above the usual German fare in a touristy place. People really put some thought and effort into their offering here. Oh, and we didn't need a reservation either. The ambiance is great, we liked the bright modern/old decor combination.

We chose this restaurant for lunch because of the proximity to the conference we were attending. They offer menus in English but we decided to let our server make a suggestion. We were glad when our plates appeared! A wonderful assortment of seared fish and my husband is still talking about the vegetables. The fish was perfectly prepared with a light seasoning. The vegetables were cooked just as we like them and included cauliflower, broccoli, snow peas, carrots and spinach. Alongside all of that were lovely buttery roasted potatoes. We washed it all down with a crisp bottle of white wine and took in the gorgeous view from our outdoor table.
Lunch was so delicious, we returned for dinner after the evening events at the symposium. We enjoyed a different fish course of seared perch, more tasty vegetables and those remarkable potatoes. We ordered the Pinot Noir that our server suggested and once again, wise decision. Finished the evening with a blueberry dessert and schnapps.
My advice is forgo the menu and take the server's suggestion! 2 delightful meals.
