We signed up for the Nostalgia Evening (otherwise known as ‘FINGS AIN’T WOT THEY USED T’BE’) last Friday, 26th January, and I can honestly say we haven't had so much fun in years. Chris is an amazing raconteur (unfortunately struggling with a persistent cough on that evening) and we were amazed to discover how much we remembered from the 50s onward, despite some of his testing questions.
There was a choice of four main courses and three desserts, all for the price of £22.50 including the entertainment. Don't miss the chance to enjoy one of the next two evenings on either 3rd March or 6th April.

The St Aubyn Arms is a modern day Country pub that was refurbished in 2011 giving it a fresh & bright feeling, yet still full of Cornish character. Our bar is always fully stocked of wines and beers from around the world. We pride ourselves on our 4 real taps that play host to some amazing ales both locally and sometimes guesting from different parts of the country. Betty Stogs and Proper Job are our 2 house ales and wont be beaten in our opinion! Our restaurant seats over 50 people and hosts a fantastic classic pub style menu. Steak and ale pie and Beer battered Fish n Chips are 2 dishes that prove to be very popular! We have a lovely beer garden to the back of the pub which is a wonderful place to relax and unwind in the summer months and is actually a fantastic sun trap during the day! To the rear of the pub we have ample FREE off road parking for our customer and with level access from there to the back door, it is perfect for wheel chair users etc.
came in for a table of three, ordered starters and steaks. The starters where great, big portions - mains came - still great portion sizes. my fillet steak meal was amazing, the 16oz rump however was very tough and 3/4 of it was uneatable. i didn't complain as i was out with my mother and just didn't want the fuss. it was probably just a bad cut but the rest of the tables food was superb. this experience wouldn't put me off returning. the only other bad point was when your sat around the corner - you do feel a little bit forgotten as staff cant see when your finished or need drinks etc.

The pub has now reopened after a refurbishment and is under new management. Food is now available every evening and at lunch times on weekends with fantastic homemade roasts every Sunday. We serve traditional homemade pub meals! The Inn currently offers tribute and two other guest ales as well as a selection of lagers and Cornish ciders.
Don’t you just like it when you come across a place that is really good. Excellent food, good beer and very friendly. What more do you need!

The Old Shire Inn offers a wide variety of fresh seasonal dishes, from light salads in the Summer to hearty stews to keep you warm in Winter. Our carvery is served every evening, as well as Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday lunch times. With its cosy, friendly atmosphere, our restaurant and bar are perfect for socialising with family and friends, or simply enjoying a quiet drink by yourself next to the open fire. We are open seven days a week, serving lunch (12-2) and dinner (6-9).
Went for an evening meal while staying at Camborne. The carvery was very well cooked but unfortuntely parts of it werent really hot enough which was a shame as the choice of food was excellent. The staff were good, helpful and welcoming. Hopefully they can sort the temperature issue out as apart from that it was good value for money

Just had a Sunday Lunch here. It was awful. The only redeeming feature was that the Turkey wasn't that bad. However, the rest of it was dreadful. I know some people like their vegetables slightly crisp but surely not undercooked. A hammer and chisel along with the knife and fork may have helped.
The plate presentation left a lot to be desired. The plates were far too small for the amount they were meant to carry. Roast potatoes were scattered intermittently around the plate. Basically anywhere where they would fit. This was finally topped off with a crumpled up Yorkshire pudding which had definitely spent most of its life in a microwave. I think mine was caught just before it was due to explode.
And now, what about the purple cabbage and what looked like some form of Leek and Onion puree. I know many colleagues of mine don't like purple cabbage or leeks but we were never given the choice. Again it was splattered onto the plate where there was a couple of spaces.
Finally I think they must have run out of gravy because it was certainly missing from my wife's plate, although I did have a little of what could be classed as gravy but I never expected it to be served as a solid lump.
Just to round things off I was very disappointed that the waiter never asked if everything was ok with the meal. That was such a shame for me. He was also born with the personality and charisma of a table leg, so in a way I'm glad he never asked.
My wife and I frequently visit local restaurants for Sunday Lunch so we have a 'rough' idea how they should look and taste along with how the staff looks after the customer. Unfortunately this did not materialise today.
Sorry Trickys we wont be visiting you some time again soon.

Service was terrible and the food wasn't that great either. We rented out the entire castle for a birthday party, however despite this there were other bookings in the restaurant which resulted in our party of around 25 people being squashed up in Seating that would probably fit in half that amount.
Prices of the drinks there were very expensive, with a large glass of coke being around £4.
Food came out in small amounts and was nowhere near enough for the amount of people there.
Service was the worst part of our time there with one server especially being rude the entire time, however the tipping point was when my grandmother got a gift of champagne and was asked by the server to pay £10 for having alcohol not sold by the establishment in the restaurant. This on top of all the other grievances caused the entire party to leave shortly after.
All in all this cost us upwards of £750 with many of the guests not eating much at all, terrible service and ruined my grandmothers 70th birthday.
Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere.

Don't really deserve a 1 star was given menus then within minutes had a lady called Angela come so could order food, and her attitude was food, tobthe point we thought would have been nice to politely ask if we was ready to order but that seemed to difficult, was ordering food after the snotty attitude and was not allowed to finish what we wanted I ordered the chicken escalope bit being told I was pronouncing it wrong, I asked for no bacon to Angela's reply it's not got bacon on it but in description it clearly said bacon, anyway food came and would you believe it had bacon on it, but her comment is it has no bacon so confuses what this bacon looking item was, would really not recommend this for food vile service and food not all to be shouted out about either, think staff training is highly needed

The food was well cooked and presented. Delicious. The bartender/waitress was friendly and efficient. The ambiance was excellent with a fire burning in the bar and wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely visit more often. Thank you Bassett arms :-)

.
As we arrived we had a lovely warm welcome and was shown to our table. We ordered our food which arrived rather quickly, my mum had the belly pork which was massive but looked absolutely delicious and I had a small scampi and chips which was still a decent size. The prices are fair for what you get, I look forward to having another lovely meal here again
