A beautiful, much-loved, scenic racecourse in the west of Ireland. Voted Racecourse of the Year 2012. Ballinrobe Racecourse has 10 fixtures annualy from April to September. The majority of race meetings are evening fixtures, taking place from approximately 5:30pm.
Ballinrobe's award winning race-course is a pleasure to visit. Free parking is adjacent to the course and children under 14 are allowed in free; there is a reduced price for students and Senior citizens. A variety of dining experiences are available for every pocket from, take-away to formal dining. This is probably one of the only courses where everybody mingles together and the view of the Partry Mountains is beautiful. The full course is visible from the free grandstand. A lot of work has gone in to making this course one of the best in the country including new bars, dining rooms and other facilities.

We were touring the north of Ireland, searching for the "Quiet Man" bridge when we decided to stop for lunch at the Ashford Castle. The drive into the grounds transports you back to days of knights and ladies as the castle and its beautiful grounds appear in front of you. Unfortunately the guard at the gate informed us that unless we were guests of the hotel, access could not be granted. Disappointed--YES, but understandable. We stayed for a short while drinking in the incredible view and watching an angler fishing the River Cong. Then it was time to leave, disappointed we didn't get to tour the castle but satisfied we got to see it from a distance.

Play a full 18 hole round of Golf like never before. FootGolf is about getting the ball from the tee off area to the hole in the least number of kicks possible. Blending two of the world's most popular sports; Golf and Football. FootGolf is played on a Golf course but instead of using golf clubs, you kick a football into a large hole.
We came here as a group of friends and had such an amazing fun day. Suitable for all ages and fitness levels. The course is laid out and kept exceptionally well. Friendly and helpfull staff top off the experience. Highly recommennd a day here.

This church and its stained glass windows are the hidden gem of Ballinrobe. 8 of its windows were created by Harry Clarke, Ireland's most famous stained glass creator. The church was completed in 1863. Its 8 Harry Clarke windows were commissioned in 1924. The windows depict scenes in the life of Jesus and Mary, and a number of Irish saints. These windows are very beautiful. There is free parking in the church car park. If you are driving from the Galway direction towards Westport, the windows should not be missed.

We visited this place while in Cong and before hiking the lovely forest trail that proceeds from this spot. Very unique place that shows the ingenuity of the monks living here. Definitely worth a visit.

We stopped here to visit the "Quiet Man" museum but unfortunately it was closed. Just not our day I guess. But despite our disappointment including the cold damp rain, we made the most of our visit. The Abbey is spectacular as are the tower, St. Mary's and the small quaint town of Cong in general. The weather must have kept most away as it appeared we were the only tourists braving the conditions that day. Will definitely return next time in northern Ireland.

It is a bit corny to have a statue in Ireland of two US film stars but if your in Cong, you are probably there because of The Quiet Man movie.
Movie aside - Cong is a pretty little town worth wandering around that offers more than what it's size would suggest.
Take the photo!

The Quiet Man Museum is a must for any Quiet Man enthusiasts. It is an exact replica of the White O’Morn cottage in the movie. Painstaking effort has ensured that all the furnishings, artifacts and costumes are authentic reproductions. The four poster bed, the tables and chairs which Mary Kate cherished, the thatched roof, Emerald green half door and white washed front combine to charm all those who visit it. The Quiet Man Museum is an exact replica of the exterior of White O’Morn, the ancestral cottage bought by Sean Thornton on his return to Ireland, as the original White O’Morn cottage is unfortunately now in ruin. The Musuem is also an exact replica of the White O’Morn interior, which was a Hollywood set. The Quiet Man Museum represents the first time the exterior and the interior of White O’Morn have been created in one place. Please note The Quiet Man Museum is open seasonally from 1 April to 31 October.
We came to Cong to visit the museum and take a tour of the village.
The museum is open 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. They have tours leaving on the hour. The tour guide walks around the village pointing out buildings and locations from scenes in the movie. Our guide, Mr. Thornton was very knowledgeable about the village and the movie.
The museum is a replica of the house from the movie. On the first floor are a few rooms with replica pieces of the house. They have a short film showing other sites from the movie and where they are located. Upstairs is a large gift shop.
We enjoyed our time there. It was worth the drive up from Galway to visit Cong.
