Quite an awesome experience wandering through this site that dates back to the early iron age where archaeologists have discovered evidence of both pagan and Christian architecture and rituals
You need a guide to point out things like the ancient ceiling decorations and to explain the rock formations indicating areas such as the apothecary, jail, bakery and wine pit.
Not for the faint-hearted or unsteady, visiting this site involves climbing quite a few stairs and scrambling over rocks.
A unique experience, certainly worth a visit.

I advice that because there's very very little in English, mostly Georgian and Russian explanations. That's the biggest minus for this museum, which therefore could be less interesting for younger visitors not familiar with Stalin, and that's the first thing museum should improve.
Visiting this museum was my must do in Georgia. It is located in the center of Gori, his native town. There are three things you should visit.
First, his original wooden house where he used to live with his family. It's in front of the museum, in the park under the temple like canopy. It's free and you cannot enter the house.
Second, the museum itself, in a pretty big building, paying 10 Lari entrance fee (around 3 Euros). Count on at least one hour there. It depicts his whole life, from his rise to power, over being one of the world's most important figures to his death. In my opinion his atrocities were underestimated in the museum layout. The museum has many original artifacts, newspaper and original documentation, private stuff, photos,...etc, but again with baldly English translation. I've learned a lot about him during my school time in socialist Yugoslavia and also could understand little bit Russian, so I managed to get the story.
Third, outside again, is his private rail wagon car. You can see it for free outside and take pics. Entrance (recommended) costs only 5 Lari, less than 2 Euros and takes 5 min to see it.

Overlooking the city of Gori Georgia it the imposing structure of Gori Fortress. With a storied history dating back to an age Before Christ it has been the scene of many battles. History buffs will love it. Architecturally it is fascinating even though it is slowly but surely falling down and was significantly damaged by an earthquake about 100 years ago. Still is it a great place to walk around and explore and the sunny day we had last week was perfect.

We'd have never found this place except that our Airbnb host knew about it, and we are glad he did. People come to Gori for the Stalin Museum and nearby Uplistsikhe. The Stalin Museum is interesting, if somewhat nauseously reverential, but the hidden Ethnographic Museum was easily the better of the two museums. It has an astonishing collection of archeologic finds, from pre-history to early modern. It gives a fascinating picture of the lives of Georgians in the area of Gori over many millennia.
It is tucked away down an alley almost across the street from the Stalin Museum. The guide when we went spoke excellent English, and the visit is worth the very few lari it cost to get in (as I recall, it would be less than a US dollar).

This museum is located in an unassuming building next to a war memorial sight for soldiers who died in the 2nd World War. Right now it features photographs and exhibits from the 2nd World War and the 2008 War between Georgia and Russia. They also plan to have exhibits from the 92/93 conflict in Abkhazia in the future. More acurate portrayal of events than the Stalin Museum but signs are only in Russian and Georgian. An English speaking guide is available for 5 Lari (in addition to entrance fee), she will explain in great detail so plan to spend a bit of time if you want a guide. Entry without a guide is 3 Lari. Worth a visit.

I contacted Colour Tour to organize a personalized tour of central and east Georgia. Teona was very responsive by email and we quickly set up a tour to Day 1) Gori, Uplistsikhe and Mtskheta and Day 2) Kakheti and Telavi. I was shown around by a comfortable Mercedes E-class Saloon by my driver Jaba and my tour guide Maya. Both very friendly and hospitable Georgians who are proud of their country and will make the effort to show you why their proud of their beautiful country.

We waren uitgenodigd voor een benefiet concert voor een zieke inwoner van Gori. Een jazzband speelde de avond. Bijzondere ervaring is de vrijheid die de bezoeker neemt om te komen en te gaan. Dit zal ongetwijfeld bij een volledige voorstelling anders zijn maar toch... Georgiërs hebben hun bezigheden en als er gebeld wordt tijdens wat dan ook dan gaat dat voor.
Een mooi theater dat het bezoeken waard is. Goede akoestiek (mits een goed afgestelde installatie).
