Chimney Sweep Monument

Reviewed By Cora_v - Kyiv

This cute street statue to the Chimneysweep with the cat at his feet is hard to miss. The human-size monument is standing right on the pavement in the very heart of Mukacheve – the pedestrian zone of Myra Ave, next to the Star hotel.
The “Happy Chimneysweep” monument created by People's Artist of Ukraine Ivan Brovdiy was unveiled as recently as in 2010. The locals call it “Bertalon-Bachi” because of its well-known prototype Bertalon Tovt, a resident of Mukachevo and a real Chimneysweep of the Communal Department #3.
I’m sure many would say “well, it’s just a statue”. But we, Ukrainians, believe that a meeting with a chimney sweep brings good luck. So don’t miss a chance to grab his button or a tube brush and make a wish! All you need is to believe...

Linden Alley

Today it is the longest in Europe linden alley. Its length is about 2.2 kilometres.

I was a bit worried about this location because I am allergic to pollen, especially when it comes to linden trees. Luckily, I was not bothered at all by by allergies and could enjoy a lovely walk outside among the trees. It is a very pleasant place - there are benches, you can look at the river and enjoy the nature and also all is very close to the city center. This is a great place that deserves to be better known.

Subcarpathian Rus' Museum of Folk Architecture and Customs

Reviewed By Alisa Z - Kiev, Ukraine

This museum is a small village that consists of authentic houses from different areas of the Carpathian region. Besides there is a 18th century wooden church built without a single nail, a school and a mill. All the dwellings are so different, rich and poor, from Mountains and from Valleys. The diversity is striking.
My kids were excited, they were running around trying to visit every single house, to examine all the utensils. In every house there is a caretaker able to show and to explain, to answer all the questions. Our guide was great. She asked thought-provoking questions, attracted our attention to the tiniest details.
The area is clean and well maintained. But what a pity some houses were closed and we had to peep through the windows to get the idea of what was inside.
Also we were struck by the fact that the museum was built on the spot of an old Greek Catholic cemetery. But still it is always wonderful to travel across the epochs, both sad and happy ones. After this visit we felt like time travel experts. It's a great place to see.

Town hall in Mukacheve is such a special building that you cannot miss it. It is situated on the corner of main streets. Out of business hours you cannot go inside but just to take a picture there is worth to be there
One curious thing is big LCD screen nearby, which light the street and make a big noise of adverts.

Shypit Waterfall

Reviewed By rih2010 - Huddersfield, England

This took some finding and the roads we took that lead up towards it are pretty rough and pothole-riddled, but once there the waterfall is quite beautiful. There is a nominal entrance fee to walk the last few hundred metres up the valley to it.
Beware if you take the path higher up the valley side. The barrier ends as you approach the waterfall and the ground is slippery. It's a long way down to the lower path and the rocks below!!
There are lots of stalls selling freshly cooked shashlick and what looked like home brewed wine. There's also a souvenir shop and several restaurants and small hotels nearby.

Castle Shenbornov

Reviewed By Martin828 - Edinburgh, United Kingdom

This is a beautiful castle, from the outside. The bulk of the castle and area is reserved for a spa, where the castle gets most of it's money from. The budget is clearly low for this castle as many of the rooms are empty and some in need of restoration. The Gardens and surrounding areas are beautiful and I wish I had had the chance to visit in Summer, rather than winter.
