Visit to the beautiful town of Uzhgodor, the capital of Ruthenia, has to be accompanied with all the factors that a visitor can find. Otherwise, the visit simply couldn't be completed. To make a visit to Uzhgorod completed, you have to see so many things and details, you have to walk along the river Uzh and its Linden Alley, the longest in Europe, you have to visit famous Uzhgorod castle with so many centuries that will tell you amazing stories, you have to visit the Museum of Folk Architecture and Life and after that, just several hundred meters bellow, you simply have to visit and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere of Hospoda restaurant. This isn't just a restaurant, but it's more like a logical continuation of tasting of Uzhgorod and the entire Ruthenia. Their welcoming, their overall approach, their menu, being it the best bograch money can buy or anything else, will make a perfect conclusion to the experience of this great piece of this part of the world. Recommendations without any doubt.

We have already eaten several times at Uzhgorodskiyu Zamok, which is the sister restaurant to this one. Of the two this is even better. We ate a varied selection of dishes from the extensive menu, and enjoyed them all.
As someone already wrote the restaurant is built in the style of an old communal house or pub. This makes it very cozy.
Try the cheese stuffed levash follow by whatever you desire, it will be good.

I first visited Detsa u Notarya in April of 2004 while working with Non-Governmental Organizations in Ukraine. Anytime I was in Uzhhorod I made it a point to visit this fine and historic establishment and its proprietor Pavlo Chuchka. Over the following times that I visited Uzhhord I always made an effort to visit this restaurant.
Once while in Uzhhorod I took a supervisor I was working for from an international organization. She told me she enjoyed it very much.
I was later there again in 2006 a number of times. I always enjoyed trying their Banosh, Steak Tartar and anything Pavlo would suggest for myself and whoever I was showing this fine eaterie.
I was also invited to a parody/poetry festival run at the establishment called Zakarpartsky Slovoblud. And my close but deceased friend Ilko Kucheriv and I both have chairs in the establishment with our names on them. Highly recommended!
I can't wait to get back to Ukraine to visit again!

Old Continent is known as a very good restaurant in Uzhhorod. However, It is not a high-level place, as they like to market themselves.
It wasn't the first time I was there, and the food was, well, average. Everytime. From a restaurant being expensive for this city, I expected to have at least a decent broth, not talking about some traditional ukrainian dishes, like Kyevskie Kotlety, which is pretty easy to cook.
The staff is welcoming, the managers are really helpful, but the waiters are unprofessional. Refilling a glass of wine? Pouring without a piece of fabric, so there are spills almost everywhere? Probably the only thing, that is positive about them, is that they didn't mix up our food. Some years ago it was pretty common.
All in all, if You want to have an average dinner, with pretty poor service, and the highest prices in Uzhhorod - this is your place of choice. Otherwise there are at least two, maybe even three great places to dine at.

In ancient times in Storozhnitsya village (suburb of Uzhgorod) that is in Zakarpattia oblast, all travelers were hospitably met by wayside inn - Charda. This was the place where travelers, merchants and locals got together to have a drink in a free-and-easy company. Storozhnitsya was mentioned in written sources of History in ХІІІ century but in that time it was called Evra, Iovra, Yovra, and Hungarians knew it as Or, that in Ukrainian translation means ‘protection’. Because here was one of frontier outposts between Red Ruthenia (Galicia) and countries of Pannonian Basin. To remind everyone about centuries history and traditions of our village, we have opened again for all travelers, and locals as well, Charda Resort in Uzhgorod and gave it ancient Hungarian name “Charda”. In Hungary in old times, taverns, where guests were taken and alcoholic drinks were sold, were called Charda. It is the place where travelers could have a rest and drink various drinks and eat some tasty dishes. Today you can as well as in past times you can stop and spend your time with pleasure on the grounds of Charda Resort.
This is absolutely wonderful place right outside of Uzhhorod hidden from the unwanted eyes. Charda is more than just a restaurant - this is lovely relaxation territory with nice stand alone terraces and gazebos. There is also small pool for kids. Food is terrific. Menu is extensive with tilt towards Hungarian, Central European and Mediterranean cuisines. I ordered Greek salad with grapefruit and veal medallions - both dishes were original, fresh and delicious! And also served very quickly and with a smile. I totally loved this place! One of best in Ukraine for sure.

Khinkali is a Georgian dumpling which originated in the Georgia. Khinkali is filled with various fillings, mostly with spiced meat (usually beef and pork in Georgia, beef in Azerbaijan and other Muslim-majori.
It was very hard to find the restaurant so if you are interested in eating here, it's in the passage between Fedyntsya street and Koryatovich square.
The traditional Georgian Kcharcho soup was nice although the meat might have required more cooking.
We tried both the traditional khinkali and the one with coriander and I must say it was disappointing.
Also, the kwas was of mass production (too artifical) - nice but we love the original.

A cosy midcentury style cafe in the old center of the town. We serve specialty coffee only and our waffle sandwiches will not leave you indifferent. Various breakfast options and alternative brew.
This cosy little coffee place in the heart of Uzhhorod is great for its ambience, friendly service and very tasty drinks and food.
As a I do not speak Ukrainian I can also recommend Eat Me! as most of the service staff speak English and are happy to help.
It's our must-go-place on every visit to Uzhhorod
