Battle of Britain Bunker

The only original Battle of Britain RAF Fighter Group Operations Room open to the public. The Operations Room, in reality a series of rooms on 2 levels some 60 feet (18m) underground, is reached via 76 steps. The plotting room with its large map table, squadron display boards, balloon and weather states, is exactly how it was when Winston Churchill visited on 15th September 1940

Amazing WW2 RAF Bunker where the busiest sector number 11 under Keith Park [later Sir] where the squadrons based at Northolt, Tangmere, Biggin Hill and Kenley etc. won the Battle Of Britain. Brilliant account of the Battle from August to October 1940 by a great volunteer. The 1939 air conditioning still works, see where, despite the odds with the right men, aircraft [mainly the Hurricane & Spitfire], early radar and the Observer Corps the Battle was one against the Nazi Luftwaffe. Good little museum too with WW2 artefacts, models, photos, paintings and history of this only recently closed RAF Station. Well worth the suggested £3 donation, loos but no café [yet?] and definitely not for the disabled or infirm as lots of stairs down to reinforced concrete bunker 60 feet under Uxbridge`s soil . Very, very good. See also where Winston Churchill learnt on 1st September 1940 that there were no more reserves.

The highlight of the visit are the Apartments. We did go through Doll House display as the line wasn’t long, albeit i didn’t find it very interesting. We went late in day so it wasn’t crowed. Got a great tourist picture of my daughter with one of the palace guards. Wonderful place to just wonder around within the grounds as well.
Being an American, the British history mostly goes right over my head, but still enjoyed the visit.
Somewhat expensive but a must see if in Windsor.

Beck Theatre

A 600 seat theatre which hosts an exciting range of dance, drama, comedy, music and family shows (including a stunning pantomime).

Disappointed with the show but that's no reflection on the theatre.
Good parking facilities and easy to get to. Recommend parking near the exit as getting out after the show is a joke due to the "pretty" layout. It's not a million mile walk, even for those less mobile.
Once inside, plenty of tables for four, usually reserved, and usually with only two people sat at them meaning that the rest of the audience stand around the foyer like wallflowers with nowhere to put their drinks, coffees or snacks. Big, big minus. It's not as if they haven't the room for a few "poseur" bar tables or even shelves in appropriate places.
Doesn't matter where you sit you are always going to have a tremendous view, and nine times out of ten fairly priced. Looking a bit tired now and we went away with numb bums so maybe the seats could do with re-stuffing. Also, leg room a bit tight which also affects moving along the rows on exit and entry.
Drinks are a bit limited and it's worth pre-ordering interval drinks online (which also offers a discount. My interval drink didn't taste anything like the pre show drink however (Kronenbourg ).
All over, a nice little theatre, but, room for improvement

Travelling to London for the first time, the last thing you want (after a long flight), us to have get yourself to your hotel. While it might be cheaper to get on the tube, or even a taxi......to have a personal pick up, and get straight to the hotel is a blessing. Trust me. Our driver - Samir, was very courteous and engaging. We will use this service again, when we travel to London in 2017.

I love this sort of thing and have waited a long time for something like this in the UK! Its super fun, and quite physically challenging keeping your balance and when you fall off (which you will!!). You need to either pull yourself up or swim round to the step-up sections. I really, really enjoyed myself, the hour went so quickly!!
It’s the largest water park in Europe and there are other activities to do there besides the inflatable aqua park (check their website). Arrive early as the slots get very full! (can accommodate 300 people at a time). Parking is good and check in is easy, I advise to fill in the waiver form online before you go so you won’t have to queue. I think its great value for money but remember to check any deals on Groupon. You can hire a wetsuit if you want, and they provide life jackets and helmets for free. You are not allowed to wear anything on your feet. The changing huts are tiny and basic, but clean. Note: there are no showers or lockers that I saw. Everyone is given a full brief before and there are lots of lifeguards around the course so you always feel safe. The staff are very friendly and helpful on and off the course as well. Go and try for sure, I can’t wait to go back!

Little Britain Lake

Reviewed By AlinaRC - Hertfordshire

This lake is a tranquil spot in an otherwise busy and developed area of West London. Close to Uxbridge and Yiewsley, there is remarkably little noise from the main roads, motorways and Heathrow airport. The lake was formed after gravel was extracted in the 1930s. The lake is now owned by the London Borough of Hillingdon who manage it as public open space. On our visit we saw a good range of water birds including herons, tufted ducks, shovelers and gadwall. The woodland around the lake also support plenty of birdlife. Walking is very easy and it is an ideal spot for a gentle stroll, perhaps with an older relative or very young children. The lake itself can easily be enjoyed in about an hour.
We did it as part of a longer walk that started in Iver - a good spot for refreshment - Colne Valley circular walk two on their website. This makes a pleasant day out in the winter of half day in the summer. Walk can be found on the Colne Valley Park website.

Ruislip Lido Railway

The Ruislip Lido Railway is a 12 inch gauge railway operated entirely by volunteers. The line runs through the woodlands skirting the lake from Woody Bay Station beside the beach, all the way round to Willow Lawn Station which is close to the car park. Here you can watch the loco being turned on the turntable ready for the return journey. The two and a half mile round trip on Britain's longest 12 inch gauge railway takes about 35 minutes. PLEASE NOTE - This TripAdvisor page is for the railway at the Lido. The Lido itself is maintained and operated by the local council.

I’m a railway nut, having been brought up in the 50s and have been on many small, narrow gauge lines all over the place but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Good rolling-stock, well maintained track of a very good length, and a lovely diesel loco ( pity the steam one wasn’t on). Very friendly staff, all volunteers I believe, who are courteous and efficient.
Well done all.

Air Forces Memorial

The Air Forces Memorial at Runnymede commemorates by name over 20,000 airmen who were lost in the Second World War during operations from bases in the United Kingdom and North and Western Europe, and who have no known graves. They served in Bomber, Fighter, Coastal, Transport, Flying Training and Maintenance Commands, and came from all parts of the Commonwealth. Some were from countries in continental Europe which had been overrun but whose airmen continued to fight in the ranks of the Royal Air Force. This Memorial overlooks the River Thames on Cooper's Hill at Englefield Green between Windsor and Egham on the A308, 4 miles from Windsor.

Be prepared to walk up the steps to the tower and look at the views. They can be hard to climb if you have knee problems as one of my friends found out.
