Travel to Europe always lends opportunities to see and understand the nightmare that was WW2. Denmarks experience of German occupation is highlighted in several Exhibitions across the country. This preserved Bunker system is well done with examples of weapons of the axis. Staff are helpful including providing English translations to the top floor display. Views of the harbour nearby can be had on the designated walks.

When going to the westcoast in nothern jutland, don't miss Thy National Park.
A unique place i nothern Europe with (up to) 200 years old plantations, twisted and odd growing trees stressed from the wind.
Dunes as long as the eye can see.
Fantastic geology exposed due to the power of nature.
Partially buried ruins of early settlements, due to sand drift.
Spend the night in shelters or take a walk/bike around the park.
Experience the unique wildlife.
Don't miss.

Bulbjerg is one of the few cliffs in Denmark and it provides good views of the Jutland coastline and surrounding area. It's possible to park at the top and bottom of the cliff. Walking along the beach at the foot of the cliff provides views of the only bird breeding cliff in Denmark with up to 500 pairs of black legged kittiwakes and their offspring. It's possible to walk along the waters edge without antagonising them and the number of birds and the volume of noise is impressive (as is the smell on hotter days). At the top of the cliff you can see the concrete remnants of a radar post that supported the gun emplacement in Hanstholm. These days one of the bunkers provides a handy toilet. In addition to visiting the cliff it's possible to spend time lazing on the beach and swimming in the sea. As you look out to sea, the beach to the left (lower car park) is quite stony. The beach to the right of the cliffs is wider and sandier. There are no facilities apart from the toilets at the top of the cliff. We stayed in a house rental in Lild Strand and walking to the cliffs and back was exactly 10km. If you're looking to jog then the beach is best at low tide. At other times the coastal path behind the dunes is much firmer. If you want somewhere to grab lunch then Lild Strand has a smokery which provides fish and chips and fish Sandwich options.

When in the Thy area, you must go and visit this charming harbor where fishermen in their quaint boats still dock bringing in their fresh catch for the day. The boats usually come in from 11 AM, and you can watch the fishermen peel out the fish from their fishing nets. You can buy fresh fish cheaply from them later, and it is so much fun buying your food directly from the producer. The beach is also a great place to have a picnic on a beautiful sunny day. There are two fish shops, where you can buy smoked fish and fish patties, so you only need to bring bread and beverages. You can also take a swim in the nearby ocean basin. Definitely, a great experience in this part of Denmark.

A private art museum with a large collection of drawings and paintings, mainly portraits, by Kirsten Kjaer (1893-1985). Side galleries have changing Exhibitions of contemporary local, national and international artists, and permanent displays of works of 1-2 resident artists, who use the museum workshops. Sculptures and LandArt works are usually on show in the grounds. Admission is free, voluntary contributions are welcome. The number of visitors per year is approx. 16.000.
Visiting in July... with my daughter. I loved the galleries and especially just walking around outside where every sculpture was a lovely surprise. The concert hall is absolutely gorgeous and I felt privileged to hear musicians rehearsing. This 'museum/art gallery/workshop is informal and spread out. You need time when you come here - just to relax and to feel the commitment of the artists who have displayed their work here.... and then of course, you will want to walk around and look at as many of the paintings as you have time for! Bring a picnic lunch, sit on the grass in the sun - or enjoy the cakes and coffee offered by the volunteers who staff the museum .. and then see and experience as much as you can.

This beautiful small church is located way out of the beaten path, but a natural attraction to see when visiting the National Park of Thy. It is amazing to find this well preserved church, which is supposedly the next smallest parish in Denmark based on the population. In terms of physical size, it is also the smallest medieval church in Denmark. My husband, whose ancestors come from the Thy area, loves to show this church to friends because of its unique location, and the extraordinary well preserved exterior and interior. It is still a source of endless wonder for me, how these Danish village churches are always open to the public, based on trust in the innate goodness of men.

This is one of the remarkable landmarks of the National Park of Thy. If you can walk up the 133 steps to the top, you will be rewarded by a 360 degree view of the Thy landscape and the sea. In the ground floor, there is a small exhibit, where the visitor can read about the history of this still functioning lighthouse. There is a fee of 10 dkr. which the visitor is requested to put in a box hanging on the wall of the entrance.

The Vestervig Church is an edifice, which constantly pops in the landscape, while driving in the Thy area. After visiting the Lodbjerg Chrurch, the smallest medieval church in Denmark, which is also located in the area, we proceeded to Vestervig Kirke, which is supposedly the biggest village church in Denmark. In the parking area, on the way to the church, you can also see the remnants of a cluster of viking settlement, which were excavated in the area. In the graveyard adjacent to the church, do not forget to take a look at the grave of the sister of King Valdemar the Great, Liden Kirsten and Prince Buris. According to the legend, the King did not allow their relationship, so he had Liden Kirsten killed and Prince Buris was chained to the church long enough to touch her grave. He was supposedly buried beside her. During our visit, a bouquet of flowers were laid on the grave. According to tradition, newlywed couples, would lay a bouquet of flowers on Liden Kirsten's grave, for someone who never got one. Such a tragic story, providing a new dimension to a visit to this church. By the way, we could not enter the church, as it is undergoing renovation.

Such a warm and well arranged gallery with a kind and welcoming host. Ceramic Artists , Sculptors, and Painters from all over Denmark have showcased their art within 3 well planned and open rooms of a beautifully renovated farm stable. The gallery is close to the popular walking and riding tracks of Thy National Park, and pristine Nors Sø is just down the road. Galleri Salshus is a must do while your visiting Thy on holidays and is only a short drive from Thisted, and the always popular Klitmøller.
If your a local and havent discovered this gem yet, i highly recommend planning a visit and enjoying the hospitality and artwork.

Hanstholm lighthouse at about 65 meters above sea level is located at the NW point of Jutland - Denmark was built in 1843, it became equipped with electric bulb lamps in 1889 that were replaced with incandescent lamps in 1924. Nothing very special, only the panoramic views are worth to make some pictures, especially over the nearby ferry - fishing harbour at the other end of this coastline, as shown in attached pictures. Entrance ticket is in combination with the Hanstholm Museum entry.
