Sudbury is a historic market town in Suffolk, one of the largest counties of England in East Anglia. Sudbury itself is worth exploring on foot, a small family friendly town with a shopping area (mostly full of chain shops but with a few great local shops), and a few good bars and restaurants. Fans of art history will be pleased to discover the house of Thomas Gainsborough on the appropriately named Gainsborough Street at the bottom of Market Hill, and book lovers may be amused by the plaque at St Peter's Church which acknowledges the fact that the town was referenced in Dodie Smith's classic 101 Dalmations.

Gainsborough’s House explores the life and art of Thomas Gainsborough. One of the greatest artists of his age, he is renowned throughout the world for his portrait and landscape paintings. The house, ‘a most excellent Brickt Mansion,’ was bought by John Gainsborough, the artist’s father, in May 1722. Thomas Gainsborough (1727-88) was born in Sudbury and was baptized there at the Independent Meeting-House in Friars Street on 14 May 1727. He lived here until around 1740 when, as a young teenager, he was sent to London to pursue a career as an artist. He returned to Sudbury in the spring of 1749 until 1752 when he painted his celebrated Mr and Mrs Andrews. He never lost the influence of his native town and county. ‘Nature was his teacher, and the woods of Suffolk his academy,’ noted an obituary after his death in 1788.
Small museum. A few paintings with some of Constable. Some silk exhibits. Information boards very enlightening. One floor not open to the public no explanation given why. Curiosity now sated. Not particular good value for money.

A relaxing therapy centre located in a quaint village setting surrounded by beautiful countryside. Offering massage holistic therapies and spa treatments to balance mind body and spirit
I visited the treatment rooms when they were at Assington and liked them then however this has taken them to another level. The surroundings are relaxing from start to finish. The treatment I had the Hot Stones was amazing and fell asleep and felt thoroughly relaxed and rejuvenated when I left. The therapist was understanding and knowledgeable and projected a calm aura which in my life is an achievement!! Loved it and will return soon

River Stour Trust is a volunteer-led registered charity dedicated to restoring & conserving the River Stour Navigation for all. The river has a long history with scenes of the working river immortalised in John Constable’s famous paintings. Our silent, eco-friendly electric boats include a restored Stour Lighter & are the ideal way to ‘Discover Constable's River’ at Sudbury, Flatford & Dedham.
11 of us booked the river trip to and from the Henny Swan for lunch.
It is hard to image a trip like this running more smoothly. We were able to park our cars with no problem, the climbing aboard was easy, our party included ages from 30's to an active 90 year old. The trip in the elegant and quiet electric boat (Elizabethan Lady) was a perfect English river trip. Cows in meadows, swans swimming by, fish in the clear water, dragon flies and other wildlife.
Our boat hosts were warm, knowledgable and helpful.....the whole trip was seamlessly painless and enjoyable.
A hearyt "Well done" to the River Stour Boat Trip people.
p.s. Our pre booked meal at the Henny Swan was excellent.

Nestling within the Library, in the Corn Exchange building, the Tourist Information Office has a wealth of literature and helpful advice. Talk to them about where you plan to visit and they may be able to offer you attractive money off bargains for entry to an event/exhibit.

In 1971 St Peter's Church was closed for public worship. It is now a community venue which is open to the public on most days. The building hosts a wide variety of Performances, fairs and Exhibitions but is also open for sightseeing. Entrance is usually free of charge, except when there is a function taking place.
I have visited this church on many occasions. Although it is not regularly used for church services it has, in my opinion become a hub for the community. Every Thursday it hosts Kettle and Fish which offers an important service to the community. It also has a great kids play area. The church also regularly holds Concerts, farmers markets, craft fairs and a Christmas tree festival. It also has art displays. Excellent use of the building and playing an important role in the community.

We had our daughter's 13th birthday party here today and cannot speak highly enough of this venue. We weren't sure if it would be a suitable choice for a group of 18 teenagers but it was even better that we could have hoped for!
They played 2 games of Laser and then enjoyed some party food in the dedicated party room. It was very well organised and the staff were extremely attentive from the minute we arrived until we left. We have had parties in similar venues before and have always felt let down by the whole experience but Strikes in Sudbury is really a venue that I highly recommend. The feedback from the children has been fantastic too so well done to everyone that helped to make this such a memorable party for them all!
