Panthera Africa is a true sanctuary, where big cats rescued from difficult situations thrive and live their lives respected and taken care of. While most facilities in South Africa breed and offer interaction with wild animals, this Sanctuary truly respects the animals and educates its visitors on how the breeding and the interaction are part of a cruel industry that ends with canned hunting. If you are in Cape Town, take the time to visit Panthera, it's really worth it.

What an amazing experience. The whole team were unbelievably friendly professional and knowledgable. Christoff was a walking encyclopedia identifying flowers, birds, trees and insects with such enthusiasm . The food was delicious and served with such friendly staff. Accommodation was comfortable and clean. Thanks Sean for firing up the Jacuzzi to ease our tired muscles and giving us an informative wine tasting of Lomond wines. The trail ended with a delicious lunch served at Grootbos Lodge with welcoming staff. All in all I don't think I can fault anything . Thank you to everyone involved and for all the gifts especially Seans field guide to the Grootbos .If you are thinking of doing this trail book know you will be so pleased you did.

One of the most enjoyable things i have ever done!! From the moment we took off along the bumpy farm year 'air-strip' to the well judged landing this trip was pure joy. Didn't see any whales, but saw two schools of Dolphins and thousands of seals. We cruised over farmland and then followed the beach along towards Grotto Beach, Wow.....maybe overused but not here. I would not hesitate to go again and thoroughly recommend you do so

Grotto Beach

It is a beautiful sandy beach close to town. Quite windy at times but still perfect for chilling. The water is freezing cold but refreshing. Can always see people trying to get into the icy water and have a dip. There's a nature walk behind the beach and I have walked for a few minutes there (had to go back because of our time limit). I definitely want to spend more time there. It provided a totally different scenery from the beach, like a forest. If you have got enough sun on the beach, it's nice to have a walk in the shade!

Phillipskop Mountain Reserve

Phillipskop Mountain Reserve protects 246ha of beautiful fynbos on the slopes of the Klein River Mountains. It is also home to Phillipskop Cave, an important local heritage site due to the presence of rock art - the only recorded rock art on the Cape Whale Coast. There are a range of hiking trails for all abilities leading to a small waterfall, the peak of Phillipskop itself, interesting rock formations, such as the David and Goliath Rock Stacks, as well as lots of magnificent views. The trails can be combined into longer circular routes. WATERFALL HIKING TRAIL (3.5km) An easy, more or less level, hike to a small waterfall with a popular picnic spot underneath a beautiful rock candlewood tree. This is also the route to take to access Phillipskop Cave. ROCK STACKS HIKING TRAIL (3km) A short climb up to admire the two rock stacks, David and Goliath, with great views on the way back across the fields of the Overberg. This trail is good to combine with the Waterfall Hiking Trail for a circular route. SADDLE HIKING TRAIL (4km) A chance to reach the highest parts of the reserve. Beautiful views from the Saddle into the hidden valley behind Phillipskop. You can go from here up to the peak itself or onto the ridge of the Klein River Mountains to look down on Tesselaarsdal.

Phillipskop Chalets are the perfect setting for a weekend getaway, a midweek break or a week long chill. Set on the slopes of the Phillipskop Mountain Reserve the views of the valley from the front deck and the mountain range as the backdrop is it the perfect setting. Chalets are spacious and well equipped and large enough for the whole family and friends. NO TV - WHAT A PLEASURE. The hiking of the reserve is something to experience, the Mountains from a distance are beautiful but plain, but once you enter on foot and get up close its a floral kingdom and something truly special. The hikes available are well marked and in a great condition. Look out for the Klipspringers on the slopes that are keeping an eye on your every move. Thank you Chris, we will be back for sure.

Raka Wine

The Raka brand was named after Piet Dreyer's black fishing vessel. Piet's first love has always been the sea. For some 36 years he braved the storms and challenges of the coast, ever in search of the best catch. It is with this same passion that the Dreyer family now pursue the art of wine making. With the rich blessing of earth and elements, the help of a dedicated workforce, the enthusiasm of winemaker Josef Dreyer and the advantages of a modern gravity flow cellar, Piet Dreyer produces his award-winning Raka wines.

Springfontein Wine Estate

Reviewed By Mark S - Nelspruit, South Africa

Whilst the setting is beautiful, and the recommendations plentiful, the experience was less stellar. Nouvelle cuisine and all it's minimalist cliches are probably at the heart of the disappointment. The food was certainly tasty, but almost nothing on the plate was identifiable as anything, and the quantities were certainly minimalist. Small purple cubes of something gelatinous are probably all the rage, but they are just not that appealing. The rest of the one plate could adequately be described as a darking spherical blob, a brown blob and some sauce. Other plates were similar. Interest level and colour not really a big thing it would appear. Another small issue - serving freshly baked bread is a nice touch, but if there is no butter and only a bit of olive oil to go with it (also, no balsamic), then your options of how to use it are limited.
