We drove here from Albufeira hoping to visit the Clock Museum, unfortunately it was monday and the museum is closed on that day. We explored the 13th cetury castle enclosure and soaked up the atmosphere wandering around this delightful small town. It was enjoyable walking the narrow streets very windy and pretty a whitewashed city for show , most houses sported white frontages but edged with grey, borders, and other brighert colours. Flowers everywhere, and it was quite easy to park as it was out of season. This is a great place to spend a day, , have a coffee and people watch, buy olive oil and wonderful handicrafts. We ate at a small cafe in the medieval square a simple tuna Sandwich salad and soup, the owner was very friendly and directed us to places of interest.

While visiting Serpa it is a must to see the aqueduto. It is quite interesting how the watersupply of this city was once organized. Unfortuneatly there is not much information about the details how it worked. Lucky for us we found someone how could give us some additional informations. It would be great, if this could be restored or at least more information could be availible.

the castle and the walls give you an amazing view that allows to see up to a very large distance of the center.
a visit to the Castle shoud also be acompanied by a visit to the archeological museum inside the walls and the nearby streets located inside the walls, where you can find traditional shops and other locations of interest such as the aquaduct and the palace area.

Museu do Relógio is a small museum for watch lovers. They have more than 2,000 mechanical watches, dating back from 1630 to today.
Very close to the main square in the historical centre of Serpa, this is a place you have to visit if you're in Alentejo.
And they have recently opened a new branch in EVORA.

We were in Serpa 2 years ago and the place charmed us so much we decided to go back this year. Serpa is a white small city with narrow roads. The old historic center is walled. You can climb part of it by going to the remains of the castle and there a staircase leads you to the top of the walls and tower. From there you get a nice view of the surroundings. Dwell through the small roads to take in the Alentejo atmosphere. Many of the small roads don't have side walks. If you are by car it is better to let the car outside and discover the center walking. Take the opportunity to buy some Serpa cheese in a speciality shop (f.i. on the praça da republica). I would place Serpa on equal footing with Obidos, but then a bit less touristically exploited and therefore quieter.

If this is the right one which I think it is, although all in Potuguese it was very easy to follow and understand the processes of the various activities. I particularly found the cheese making process good. And there is a factory in town, although we ran out of time for a visit

Passei por esta igreja num sábado e domingo de manhã voltei novamente lá com esperança de estar aberta e visitar o seu interior. Infelizmente das 2 vezes estava fechada. É pena hoje em dia só abrirem para as celebrações religiosas. Bonita fachada.
