Go to the Salinas Malecon for much more action and tourists. Go here to mingle with locals. Catch the men's social club near the end to see competitive card playing and ecuvolley (the Ecuador vollyball variant) with a lot of bets changing hands. A central food stand with a Chloripan sign is my favorite for burgers EC style, a fantastic sub Sandwich and some other local dishes.

We took a cab, it is a long walk from the main military gate, don't forget your passport. The sea lions, about 30 were hard to see & not too active today! Bring binoculars if you have them

We paid $5 to rent an umbrella with two chairs right on the beach. A ton of vendors were swarming around us, offering everything from coconuts ($1) to jewelry, sunglasses, clothes, and massages. It's a clean, lovely beach. The weather was pretty overcast today, so not too many people out.

Enjoy the beauty & relaxing time on a very beautiful two-mast sailing boat with a teak deck. The Belgian captain, Arnaud speaks almost any language. This is one of the best ways to watch whales or to see the coast from another angle. Groups up to 12 are possible.
Words are not enough to describe how amazing our experience was with these guys. They were very polite and knowledgeable and took all the worries about being out on the water. The boat was beautiful. Let the pictures be the judge for you!

Lots of locals and tourists. Many people selling their food and other merchandise. We went at night during carnival. Lots of people out having fun. Street foam parties, water balloons and music. It is usually quieter here but everything was busy for carnival. A lot of garage around.

Salinas is a place where you can enjoy the sun, sea and sand, it is ideal to spend a weekend, get out of stress, share with family, walk along the Malecon of Salinas and watch people have fun is cool. The typical food, of Salinas are the seafood, although I do not like seafood, the locals try to satisfy the needs of the client, and offer their best dishes, I like the service that these places offer because they look for the way that the client Feel satisfied. The food varies between 5 or 6 dollars depending the dish. The lodging for hotels depends on the category of the hotel and is according to the pocket of the tourist.

The guide knows what he is talking about. The place is small, but volumes of information. A real treasure in a small package. We eight visitors loved it!

As the road weaves it way around to a point where you can see a panoramic view of the waterfront and all the activities that are going on there, it is breathtaking to think that in just a few minutes you can be a part of that scenery.
The daily lives and activities that go on there every day are the engine that drives this small community.
You could be a player in a national geographic production.
This way of life is slipping away, some may say that is progress, to others it will mean the loss of skills and the small fisher families, unable to make that living work, will have move to new employment.
Take a look into this living history while it is still there to look at.
