Bergamo is a northern Italy treasure. Dating from 49 BC, Bergamo has two centers: the Alta (upper) city and the Bassa (lower) city, connected by a funicular and walking trails. For historic sites, go to Alta for the Piazza Vecchia, the Cattedrale di Bergamo e Battistero, and the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore Baptistry, as well as the quirky mausoleum of Rastelli, the world famous juggler. Bassa is more modern and residential, and boasts Via 20 Settembre - the shopping district.

Family owned restaurant located off the main tourist drag in Bergamo this is worth seeking out for a high quality good value meal. Helpful and friendly staff. The lobster linguini was full of flavor and the shrimps were amazing. Absolutely amazing food!

Once in a lifetime experience to eat the exquisite, delicate and novel fish and meat dishes that only a top Chef can provide. can offer. I've been visiting Italy every year for the last 40 years and this is really a unique offer to taste something new and different that you probably have never been offered anywhere in Italy. You've come to the right place that will make your trip to Italy really memorable. Rich in every way except price so enjoy your visit.

Porta Osio takes the name from a door in the old wall surrounding the city and conserve some walls embedded in the building. Forty seats to be cuddled in tranquillity. The restaurant has been standing out for the first -class choice of cold cuts and cheeses, first of all the Pata Negra, the real Iberian ham "de bellota" (acorn). Among the offers there are always first quality French oysters, Mazara del Vallo scampi and Sicilian red prawns, crudites that perfectly combine with the champagnes in the list. The selection of meats like ribs, Florentine T-Bone steaks and sliced beef always of important sizes served on a soapstone is excellent. The menu follows products seasonality.
On arrival in Bergamo I had failed to research ahead and once in our accommodation headed to a local restaurant that was well reported on Trip. Let in without reservation we were shown to a small table. The menu was varied and catered for most tastes. We asked the gentleman who admitted us for a wine from a particular region that was not apparent on the wine list. Remarkably a wine was produced that we were seeking and proved to be very acceptable. Overall the meal was excellent. Why not excellent - sadly we were overcharged for the wine by a modest amount above the price quoted. We did not want to create a scene as the meal was a success overall.
Do not let this experience prevent you from going but do check the bill for any unexpected expense!

Had a wonderful dinner here recently. The owners (the husband runs the front of the house, the wife the kitchen) made us feel very welcome with a level of attention and service that is (sadly) uncommon in Europe. We ordered a sampler plate, which came with beef and chicken, and at least three vegetables. The food was plentiful and (as we'd requested) nicely spiced. The sit-down portion of the restaurant is new (opened only in early 2014) and is nicely decorated with welcoming shades. The owners speak English and have an English-language menu. We were treated to a Sardinian Mirto digestif to top off the meal. Highly recommended.

We had a fantastic evening in the Restaurantino. The service was super kind, they made a special dish for our kids and were really welcoming. The food was really yummy, hand made and special. They have a nice selection of wines and make good recommendations.

I've eaten lunch at this restaurant several times in the past few weeks. The decor is attractive and the whole place is bright and airy. Good food with a set menu and daily specials. Service is lightning-fast and friendly. Prices are moderate.
Free parking is available on the main thoroughfare outside but can be scarce at times.
I would definitely go back again.

Al Sultan
The posh kebab shop, frequented by business men in suits, families, kids and smart dressed groups..... It shows How to dress up and make the staple kebab interesting and does it really well and with great prices... Very good, friendly services, to finish we were offered a glass of lovely sage tea, with 'special' sage all the way from Palestine.... I'm not a tea lover but this was fabulous.
Overall this was great, an unexpected treasure in downtown Bergamo!

We tasted 4 types of the wonderful deep pan pizza. The pizzas are prepared in a nice log fire oven with ingredients of the best quality, The.nutella focaccia is to die for.
Owner was so kind to prepare for us some more pizzas and focaccias to take with us free of charge.
If you like pizza and in the proximity of Bergamo, make sure you visit

An unmatched setting for a unique experience. The gourmet restaurant of Relais San Lorenzo is embedded within a Roman and medieval Archeological site: an exciting door on time.
The fine and high-level cuisine will allow you to taste the pleasure of Italian dishes and valuable local products.
(Sunday and Monday Closed, always open to guests staying at Relais)
(Pets are not allowed)
I went here with my girlfriend for dinner.
The setting is amazing - basically, the dining room is in the middle of an excavation of walls and buildings dating back up to 2000 years. Very atmospheric.
The staff were lovely, attentive without being overly intrusive.
The food was excellent, although you're paying a lot for it, so I'd hope so.
My only slight concern was with the scallops I ordered. They are served as a carpaccio (so cold) but the plate they arrived on was warm. This worried me a little, and the following morning my stomach was indeed a bit upset. Nothing to major but it's something the restaurant should pay more attention to, I think.
