Spend a day enjoying yourself… visit AcquaPark Odissea 2000! Water Park Odissea 2000 is located in Rossano, just a few meters from the beautiful Ionian coast of Calabria. Odissea 2000 is established in the major Nausicaa Tourist Village and it is one of the largest water parks in Italy. Enjoy the slow-moving river in a tube or explore a wide variety of attractions going down slides like the fast Omero Jump or the Big Olimpo, the one and only water roller coaster; challenging the Titan Roller, the longest slide in Europe or going upside down with Chimera and for the most fearless Skyron Rocket, a leap into the unknown to get everywhere... And for our younger guests, there is “l’isola di Galatea”, dedicated to families and their children, a whole playground nestled in the magnificent scenery of Waterfalls, rocks and splashes of water, enlivened by Performances at the Island’s Satyrs Theatre. Odissea 2000 offers everything you could wish for… you can take part in the games, or, more simply, just hang out in one of the chill-out areas. Throughout the entire day in the park there are live shows and animations for children and adults. For delicious Italian meal and snacks, restaurants are available in the park.

Well worth a visit just as the rest of the old part of Rossano is well worth a visit. Charming group of Franciscan monks were also visiting!

The Diocesan Museum and of the Codex contains the well-known greek illuminated gospel (one of the three illuminated gospels in the world), recognized world Heritage by the UNESCO on October 2015. It also contains countless artworks of different periods belonging to the Rossano-Cariati Diocese. It containts an interesting archeological find, known as the Greek mirror dating V Century B.C. The Museum is open everyday, except Monday, from 09.30 AM to 12.30 AM (in summer until 13.00 PM) and from 15.00 PM to 18.00 PM (in summer 16.30-20.30). On bank holidays and Sundays in winter times from 10-12 AM and 16-18 PM.
The rightly famous "purple codex" of Rossano is equally appropriately touted everywhere around town and province as a matchless pearl--and let there be no doubt: it is well worth a detour or even an entire trip. However, all the deeper our disappointment when in answer to a query on our part we were blithely told by the cashier (this past 12 august) that the codex was not on view but in Rome for restoration. Sure enough, virtually the entire wall behind the manuscript's showcase was taken by a color enlargement of the Pope (Francis) being shown the manuscript; however, there was not a shred of explanation of the circumstances of the manuscript's current removal, its presumed restoration, the projected duration of work, let alone of its future location, etc. Its original place in the showcase was taken by the (very good) facsimile edition of 1985 (?), which expectedly was opened to two facing pages only, whereas extremely poor photographic enlargements of all miniatures were shown on a neighboring stand. It nearly goes without saying that there was no information about the identity of the book on display as a facsimile. -- It may well be that the blatant economizing with the truth on the part of the museum is the result of incompetence rather than ill-will, yet it leaves a bad taste.

The drive up from Piragineti alone is worth this detour along a journey through the very south of the Italian 'boot': vegetation and views along the winding road are enchanting, and would be doubly so were it not for the eyesore of power station down by the sea (scandalous!). The woods and especially the cypress trees around the ruined monastery add charm, and the austere interior of the church (but also note the decorative tile work on the apse) is enlivened by--alas only fragments of--a rich floor mosaic reminiscent of that in Otranto, filled with a variety of animal and vegetal images. -- If and when in the area, be sure not to miss it!

Nice roadtrip into the Mountains. The Old trees are very interesting for those who love nature. The last 800 metres you have to walk on an easy road.
