Gaze out at the azure Adriatic Sea from the sunny beaches of Otranto, in Italy's Puglia region. This historic port town attracts locals and tourists to its 10km of beaches and diving rocks. In town, the cathedral features large-scale mosaics dating back to the 12th century. If you love snorkeling and beautiful seaside views, it's worth making the short journey south to Porto Badisco.

This is a lovely little restaurant and the food is really excellent. The problem, as other reviewers have mentioned, is that the owner has to control absolutely everything personally. So he greeted us when we arrived, took our order, recommended our wine and generally fussed around us for a short time. However, by the time we had finished our first two courses and the wine the other room had filled up and he spent all of his time in there fussing round the later arrivals. After a half hour wait when we couldn't get any attention, we got the bill and left without dessert. If the food hadn't been so good the rating would have been lower. With better service it might have been a 5.

Short story; lovely evening in restaurant where everything is great and works. The food and vin are excellent, the waiter knows his things, the atmosphere is great. We tested the gratinated mussels, two types of pasta with seefood, monkfish and chocolate dessert. Do not hesitate, just pop in!

Typical Salento, a wide selection of local wines, horse and beef Florentine grilled.Opened every day in the summer by prenotation. We accept payment with credit card.
Getting here is easy once you arrive...but does not look so when you try to follow the address.
The meat is very good and probably worth the trip. They can also cook all sort of fish or what you like with some notice. They keep everything fresh as they claim not to have fridges.
The price is very good, but you can only pay cash. This is not a problem as the owner will not make you clean the dishes. I never seen such honesty, which needs to be congratuled.
Service is slow and there is not a menu. However this is well compensated by the owner kidness. If credit card would be accepted and the place becomes more "formal", it could have lots of success.

Situated between Otranto and Porto Badisco, Tenuta Sant'Emiliano Farm offers enchanting scenery, the holiday of your dreams, limpid and uncontaminated sea, relaxation, peace and silence. But Tenuta Sant'Emiliano Farm does not only propose accommodation: you may also taste the well-known Salento cuisine, prepared with the farm's genuine organic products, having lunch and dinner on the lovely Terrace dominated by the Tower of Sant'Emiliano.
The fates were against us as we had only just finished our substantial and delicious antipasti when the heavens opened and we all had to move indoors. The staff were brilliant: cheery, smiley and efficient even in tricky circumstances. And this is a huge operation with large parties of at least three generations of hungry Italians. The antipasti were good and copious with particularly fine aubergine (though the family joke is that I don't like aubergine in general - just whichever recipe is in front of me) and a fava bean dish I really enjoyed. Maybe the pasta wasn't so memorable but the evening was - good grappa too AND a smallish bill.

There are a lot of tourist-trap-white-table cloth restaurants with high prices and bad fare in Otranto; Balconcino d'Oriente is definitely not one of them. It's rather an honest and quality place with great food, reasonable prices and romantic but down to earth atmosphere.
If you appreciate a low key tasty food and some great rosato, this is the place to go to. When I was there, the waitresses were two older ladies that showed no mercy - they would boss around and make sure everything in the restaurant was as they wanted it; in an adorable yet professional way. It reminded me a little of the Seinfeld episode "the soup nazi".
I had some Orrechiette with veggies on ricotta as a Primo Piato (apparrently one of their house plates) and it was absolutely spectacular.

The gastronomic restaurant of the Palazzo Papaleo can be summarized in a short but significant sentence of the great Eduardo De Filippo:<br><br>"Only after studying, thorough and respected tradition, you have the right to set it aside, but always with the awareness that we owe, at least, he had helped to clarify things. Of course, if it remains anchored the past, the continuing life becomes life that stops but, if we use tradition as a springboard for it is obvious that we will jump much higher. Always open to new trends, but respectful of tradition, we prepare dishes from land and sea unique.<br><br>A staff room and kitchen, made up of young and motivated lovers of his work, has allowed in recent years at the Restaurant of Palazzo Papaleo to become part of a quality market. Their way of making sparkling and cheerful, yet courteous and professional, will accompany your every evening giving you an experience to remember.<br><br>In the period of spring-autumn we will welcome you in the inner rooms by the beautiful vaulted ceilings and charming fireplaces; Summer in the Terrace inside the courtyard where intense scents of the sea and countryside are mixed.<br><br>The cozy dining rooms and the outdoor restaurant in the courtyard lend themselves to be reserved for small celebrations or business lunches and dinners.

We sat at one of the outdoor tables for a puccia and beer. We took one one classic and one multigrain, we chose Diavoletto and Deliziosa. Both were very good. Perfect place for a quick snack when strolling through Otranto old town.your satisfaction is the goal of our work, thank you and please come back. Saporí staff

A spontaneous decision turned into a very positive surprise: staff very friendly and attentive including the chef himself, for instance with a very good dessert wine.
They have very good olive oil, very good wine and quality of food, nice combinations and fair prices and overall a great dinner experience.

we found this bakery thanks to tripadvisor. it is located on one of the main streets of Otranto, not far from the castle. we bought really delicious cakes, but the absolute best one is the "pasticciotto": a delicious cake with cream and cherry (I suggest you to eat it warm, is superb!).

We reached Otranto in the early evening after five and more hours in a bus and with no lunch. Gelateria Cavour was the first place we found inspiring us for having a break/sneak....we didn't miss it, no more! It has become out foundamental stop one or maybe two times per day, everyday!
One of the most tasty and delicate ice cream I ever tasted. Tasty as the ingredients they use, delicate for the ingredients are surely natural.
Don't miss to taste cioccolato fondente (dark chocolate), pistacchio (pistachio nut) and fichi (figs)!
