If you visit the Museo Battaglia de Ortona honoring Canadian soldiers participating and/or killed in this battle, you should follow it up with a visit to this cemetery. As with all military Cemeteries around the world, this final resting place is well kept and inviting. As Canadians, we were touched seeing the tombstones of such young men killed in action protecting our freedoms and liberties.

If you are in Ortona, you need to visit Castello Aragonese. This Renaissance castle overlooks the Adriatic sea and is fantastic spot for photos. There is no cost to enter the castle (there is not much to see inside), but the views from the walls of Ortona are spectacular.

I drove a rental car from Rome to this basilica in Ortona and then continued driving south along the coast to Taranto. I believe the drive from Rome to Ortona was only about 2 hours or so. When I arrived I needed to wait until 1pm for the basilica to open. I believe it is opened in the morning then closes and opens again at 1pm. While waiting about an hour I walked around the town and took some photos. I was there December 26 which I believe is a holiday in Italy, St Stephen's day, so most of the shops and restaurants were closed around town. There is a sign out front written in both English and Italian providing information about the basilica and Thomas. There are also signs inside in English as well. The tomb of Saint Thomas is located downstairs directly beneath the main altar. There is not a fee, though there are donation boxes, and photos/videos are allowed. I visited all of the tombs of the apostles in Italy during my 2 week stay so this was a must see for me. The architecture and artwork inside is beautiful, well worth the visit.

This private museum includes an incredible collection of uniforms, weapons, and accessories of the soldiers fighting in Ortona, as well as mementos and accounts of the battle from civilian residents.
Models of the town during and after the battle are very well put together and add extra perspective. Well worth a visit for anyone interested in WWII history.

The beach is nice and you can visit it with kids. The water is clear and not too deep. A lot of kids animation program, so that parents can relax.

Locali polifunzionali all'interno.

Built by the fascist government in the 1930s, this Theatre is beautiful just from the outside. It is in a public square, with a great view of the Adriatic. There are some chairs and tables (with umbrellas), which makes it a great place to sit and enjoy pizza and a beer from one of the nearby vendors.

Comunque è piacevole passeggiare e scoprire vicoli,spazi e piazze.
