Baotu Springs is definitely a must see in Jinan. Its located in the city center, which makes it an odd yet tranquil contrast to its surroundings. It's comprised of 72 Springs, amongst them are some beautiful courtyards and pavilions as well as some overpriced tea houses - and if you're lucky you may catch some locals practicing two chi or an opera performance. The entrance fee is a mere 40 RMB per person - no credit card or wechat accepted. Closes relatively early (forgot time). Best to avoid weekends.

This lake is very famous but there's really nothing special about it. The government poured a lot of money into the park and it shows in the sparkling new structures. I'd much prefer more authenticity of the original dilapidated structures than the clean new towers. However, given that the southeast entrance was free, I can't complain too much.

If its your first time in Jinan, I would definitely recommend it. Its a nice park with shopping nearby. This spring features a boat ride in the canal which as quite interesting. The price of the ticket is cny 100 per adult and cny 50 per child 100 cm and above. The ride is approximately 1 hour +- and you need not to alight from the boat until you are back on the main jetty.
The scenery is pretty good and the water is crystal clear. The canal goes around the city and also into DaMingHu.
There is also a part where you enter not a 'canal elevator' where the boat enter into a pathway and the door closes behind you and water was released for the boat to be lowered down to the lower area into DaMingHu. Same goes when the boat moves back to the main jetty where the boat enters into the pathway, the water was pushed back and the boat was lifted up to the same area as the higher area.

Every Chinese city seems to require to have a large open space with a sculpture in the center for the residents to relax and play. This is the one for Jinan. People were flying kites the afternoon I visited. The downside was temperature was too hot to spend any length of time there. Evening and night time would have been a better choice to enjoy the square.

For an European the Thousand-Buddha Park and Caves are a stunning experience. Nice to feel Buddhas's legacy, breath the atmosphere of very religious people going there to pray and enjoy. The Caves with Buddha representations are a great experience and arriving at the top of the HIll and meet the Golden Buddha is just memorable. Nice view over Jinan too.
Place to spend a couple of hours.

Years ago we were at the old Shandong Museum, which, was NOTHING like this one! The museum showcases the history of the Shandong area from the Neolithic to more modern times. The exhibits are well designed, altho a bit short on English. They certainly deserve a few hours, however.
The museum store was somewhat disappointing because there were very, very few books in English. However, the ones we bought had gorgeous pictures of the artifacts and other treasures the museum has.
The museum is handicapped accessible, bright where it needs to be, and a wonderful experience. It's free, but bring your passport to show at the entrance. We would return in a minute.

i really enjoyed visiting here although its smelly and dirty and the pavement is all broken. like most of Jinan there are very few westerners and it felt like a very authentic experience. had fantastic spiced bread cooked on something like a tandoori oven

As the name implies, the prominent five stone-carved dragons sprouting water can easily be seen at the entrance. This park is similar to the Baotu Spring Park in terms of garden, pavilion, walkways and general landscape. Nevertheless, it is nice to leisurely explore the entire park, enjoying nature and the clear spring water. When I was there, I was pleasantly surprised that some trees were blooming with beautiful flowers. At 5 yuan per pax, it is definitely worthwhile to visit this park if time permits.

About One hour drive from Jinan and One hour twenty minutes from Taian (Taishan) city. Excellent natural scenic. To enjoy the weather and observe the beautiful valley cover with red color leaf, it better to visit during end of October to till end week of November. Lots of buses plays between Jinan and Red Leaves Valley during pick seasons. No need to be worried if you know Chinese otherwise get a good guide to reach the valley. Entry ticket is available just beside the steps / front side of Car parking area. You need to pay 60 RMB per head.
