We are new to Haddington and have sought out St Mary's for worship. It has a fabulous history and is a magnificent building.
All who attend are more than welcoming and the minister Jennifer is a super, realistic and approachable lady. It is worth a visit to walk around the grounds and local area.

The gallery exhibits a changing programme of contemporary arts and crafts Exhibitions, while the craft shop features a beautiful selection of handmade and carefully selected wholesale goods.

Small little family run cafe above the little art gallery, in need of renovation/upgrading. Generally good service, food nice although small portion sizes - if your hungry then better off going to 'the Pantry' on the high street.

This was one of the places we visited on a short stay in this area. It is approached along a single track lane and only has a lay by for a few parking spaces, it's free entry, no toilet/refreshments.
We were lucky to visit when there was no one around, it's a beautiful peaceful spot full of history that's well maintained, it has escaped the usual tourist commercialisation and we just loved our visit. It's not huge and won't take hours to look around but if you are looking at the local Castles it's definitely worth including this one

Glenkinchie Distillery lies in the heart of the East Lothian countryside, 15 miles from Edinburgh. Why not pay a visit to see how we produce the Edinburgh Malt. After a trip around our museum, where you can see a wonderful model of a distillery, you will then be taken round the distillery by one of our experienced and informative guides who will explain the stages of production of Single Malt Whisky. You will visit the Kiln Room, the Millroom, The Mash House, the Tun Room and the Stillhouse where you will see one of the largest Copper Pot Stills in Scotland. After a trip to the traditional warehouse you will finish up in the bar with a dram or two of Whisky

Glenkinchie Distillery is the closest distillery to Edinburgh, accessible via bus, taxi (about 40£) or a shuttle run by the distillery to Edinburgh's Old Town (10£). The tour (10£) is informative and takes you through every step of the whisky-making process, including right up to the fermentation tanks and pot still. It ends with a tasting of two types of Glenkinchie whisky. It’s worth paying a little extra (another 4£) for two more tastes of whisky, as they have some delicious whiskies available to try from other Distilleries. The tour guides are friendly and knowledgeable and had great suggestions for other drams to try! The website recommends advanced Reservations, but we called the morning of and they got us right in when we arrived. If you’re a whisky fan or curious how it’s made, I definitely recommend it.

Gullane Beach is extremely clean, either that they have had people taking away all the rubbish that blows in. Went for a long walk (2 hours) and only saw one plastic bottle. I love this place. Wide open Beaches and beautiful sand dunes. Great place for the dog and yes people do pick up their poo - makes a change

Caravan and Motorhome campsite is an absolute must for dog owners. A 5 minute walk from the site is the beach, to get to which you pass through a big field and some woods. There is also a dog walk on the site and a doggy shower for hosing off your best friend when you return from the beach.
There is ample parking at the field and public toilets (in need of some tlc). The walk itself from the car park is flat and firm underfoot. The path is wide but you can also wander through the wood to get to the beach. The beach is stunning. Beautiful views, sand dunes, a lighthouse-we had a terrific time

I have passed Longniddry Golf Club for years on my way to Gullane, Muirfield or North Berwick and always thought "how can I play that course it looks great"! Well finally I spoke up to my friends who live in the area and turns out my friends father was a former member (he is sadly deceased) so we called up and made the booking. I loved the course, clubhouse, members were great, pints in the clubhouse after were perfect (we watched the final round of the Open) as were the biscuits! This is a great "just came off the plane course" to get your legs ready for Scotland (remember it is walking, walking/carry or pull the trolley here) or the perfect "coda" to a five day trip as it was just great fun. I really enjoyed it, loved the area and will look forward to my next trip to play it again!

Was going to visit on tuesday when i knew it opened longer hours but something cropped up so went Wednesday instead, when i thought i'd read it was open 9-5. Its an hours bus journey from Edinburgh. Oh dear, my mistake, the centre is open 9-5 but not the archive section. From what i heard from other agencies, all the information i was looking for regarding my ancestors living there, was contained within! So what am saying is double check timings before you visit. It is very geared for people with disabilities, places to rest, lift, dis. Toilet etc. Plenty of cafes nearby, lovely town, riverside walk etc.
