We stayed at Castelrotto and there is a shuttle bus to the cable car station. We went early and got our cable car tickets easily before the crowd came in. The cable car ride was smooth and interesting. When we reached the top, there were so many things to do and many trails to take. The weather was sunny and we walked around enjoying the beautiful scenery all around us. After coming down by the cable car, we took another shuttle bus to Ortisei. After touring Ortisei, we took the shuttle bus back to Castelrotto, got our luggages and went on to Bolzano by bus. We visited before 2016

Taking the gondola from just outside the village Siusi is a wonderful long ride on its own. Even if you don't want to stay on the alm, the ride is worth it.
The Alm itself is huge and amazing walking. Their are wonderful rock formations and very green grasslands with cows with bells and little streams and Waterfalls.
There are good maps with walking trails and signposting a for all trails. You will see plenty of people with maps standing before the signs and consulting each other where they are. And the. There are plenty of little rest huts, actually little restaurants dotted around. It is almost a pity that you can't stop at all of them because the views are always wonderful. A day gives you a good taste of the area and the feeling there is so much more to see and do.

It is considered one of the most attractive lakes in the South Tyrol. Ii is perfectly located at the foot of the Sciliar Massif, it is surrounded by woodlands and it is ideal for swimming, of course during Summer. During Winter, a part of the lake freezes and it is perfect for ice skating.
I understand that this nice lake is not natural, but it was created in the XVIth century, by Leonhard von Vòls (Fiè) – Colonna, Captain of Tyrol, as a fishing lake.
In the recent past years, we have been there twice, always during Winter Seasones, so we could enjoy nice walks around this lake, in the middle of a beautiful and relaxing nature.

All of its 15 villages, some smaller than others, scattered from the lovely vineyards in the valley all the way up to the breezy altitudes of Alpine highlands, offer recreation, culture and tons of nature to experience and enjoy. Lose yourself in the vastness of one of the world's most beautiful views. Revel in every bite of tasty culinary treats and relish every bit of wholesome relaxation. And if you're craving action and adventure, find your natural high in the diverse and breathtaking landscape. Welcome to the sunny Renon plateau - because we all deserve a sunny spot!

I planned an autumn short vacation of three nights / two days on the Renon / Ritten plateau, and I enjoyed it very much, walking fascinating trails.
The excursions are made easy by the excellent signage. You need to bring packed lunch, because the lunch hour often comes in alpine or otherwise lonely places.
The first day, leaving from Longostagno / Lengstein, we walked up to the small church of St. Verena and back. Soon after we headed to the cable car station for Punta Lago Nero / Schwarzsee Spitze (cable car starts from Tre Vie / Pemmern) .
Then at the top station of the ropeway, we walked the beautiful panoramic round trail, in a high mountain environment, which crosses huge stretches of "mugo" pine and offers - if the weather is favorable - a very wide Panorama of the Alps, up the Ortles on West and Marmolada on East.
We then walk down the path, back to the valley station of the ropeway.
On the second day, starting from Soprabolzano / Oberbozen, we walked another circular path, the so-called "Themenweg" , which leads to Assunta / Maria Himmerfahrt, and from there by bends down to the valley, to reach the earth pyramids in the small canyon of Rivellone / Rivelaun river: a view for which the plateau is famous.
Edged up in Soprabolzano, we took the lovely, efficient Renon small train up to the last stop of Collalbo / Klobenstein, and from there we walked back to Soprabolzano through the so-called "Freud walk", because often traveled by the famous scientist during his stay on the plateau. The walk is so easy that it can also be made by strollers.
The paths for us have made easier by having a car, but most of the trails are anyway easily accessible by a very efficient public transport.
In particular, the combination of Bolzano-Soprabolzano ropeway and Soprabolzano-Collalbo small train makes possible these paths also leaving from the city of Bolzano and coming back each night.
But of course it's more convenient to stay overnight on the plateau: in Collalbo or in Soprabolzano, which are the most central places.
Overall, a very recommendable stay!

Chiusa is a medium side village in a narrow valley of the river Rienza. On the opposite side of the river there are the autostrada and the train, above the village the steep castle and church of Sabbiona. The village has been there for over 2000 years and some of the houses and churches are medieval. The center is a narrow street with many shops, good restaurants and bars and it is worth a visit.

We have visited this area twice now and it never disappoints. The pedestrian zone has a lovely ambience about it and the shops & restaurants leave you with lots of choices. The tourist information is towards the end of the strip.
The hotels provide you with a Mobility Card which provides you with free bus travel in the area which was a real bonus as we were about 800 metres out of the main strip.
