Štanjel (pronounced [ˈʃtaːnjɛu̯]; Italian: San Daniele del Carso) is a village in the Municipality of Komen in the Littoral region of Slovenia. It is located on the Karst Plateau overlooking the Vipava Valley. In the 17th century it was fortified to defend it against Ottoman raids. It was heavily damaged during World War II and it has been slowly rebuilt since.

This is nice local inn but nothing special. You can order jota or some food from the region and of course, taste local wine - teran. You can also choose some open tourist farm in the same village. It is possible to visit Kosovel House or walk to Sežana. Use Kosovel trail.

i am totally amazed of todays experience in this charming restaurant. The chef came to every table, chatted and took orders.
the staff is totally professional, friendly and have a smile in their faces.
the location is amazing. cant wait to be there in summer time to sit outside and enjoy the view over the vipava valley
it was not a problem to bring my dog wilma with me.
the quality of food you get offered is amazing. every dish is like a piece of art.
last but not least - the prices are more than acceptable. it is more than in normal restaurants bur if you go for slow food and high end you would expect minimum twice the amount.
all in all a perfect time there. that is why we immediatelly made a reservation for my bday kn june.

My wife and I stayed in Majerija for one night while visiting the Vipava region. We had a tasting menu with wine pairings while there. We would highly recommend it and would love to go back.
The restaurant is in the small village of Slap. There isn't much in the village other than a few houses. Majerija sits overlooking the village and valley. The rooms are underground, which keeps them cool. We visited in the height of a heatwave and the rooms were comfortable. The room was spotless, nicely designed and had a lovely shower.
The restaurant seemed to be fully booked. Everyone was seated inside because they were afraid of rain coming that evening. I gather that on clear evenings you can sit outside. We had a tasting menu which was just delicious. There was a range of fish, meat and vegetable dishes. Where possible they try to use local ingredients. We could hear other tables in the room adapting the menu to dietary requirements so you can do this if you wish. We went with the wine pairings which were all Slovenian wines and complemented the meal well.
The one night stay, with the tasting menu, wine and a bottle of wine that we bought there came to 240e. So not a cheap meal but certainly worth it in my book. I hope to be back again.

We have been coming back to this restaurant for years, when we decide to eat out. Always friendly service, good advise on what to have, and let's not forget their wine and prosciutto. I always take some prosciutto to go, as it's just divine.
Meals have always been tasty, wodnerfull for a group of people, or a cloes company, we have celebrated a birthday there a few years back, and thequality hjasn't changed since then. It's still top notch!

"Typical" local "reengineered" dishes prepared with amazing balance in texture and flavor. Top quality "raw material" nicely "handled" to create delicious dishes. Excellent wines. Attentive good service. Go for it. P.D. It is a beautiful little "gostilna", relax and enjoy it with no rush!!

It was a rainy night. We were in Stanjel -beautiful Gardens, interesing castle. Going back to Portorož we stopped in Gostilna Ukmar. The place was full of people talking, meating and drinking. We ordered rostbeef po kraško (roastbeef all carso), gnocchi po kraško. "Po kraško" means in red wine 'Teran'. We were offered fantastic bread! We also had housewine Teran (and bought 1,5 l :). Staff very friendly and English speaking. Very clean place. Everyone should try it.

I visited this place several times. It is an old country inn with clean interior. They serve good food, mainly regional and under some Italian influence. But service is sometimes nice, sometimes very "official" and not fast enough. I don't know what makes difference. So, try to make good impression to the owners to get better service.

We stopped here for lunch on the way to Italy. The service was excellent and our vegetable pizza was very nice (for me I think the base could have been crisper, but my other half was v happy with it) We also had fresh orange juice. This was only ok, too pulpy, maybe just not the best oranges. . If you're in the area then it's worth a visit. (1 large pizza, 2 fresh orange, 2 ice cream €11.5).
