Things to do in Mougins

We were really looking forward to dinging in the old Mougins Village as we had heard so much about this area. The village itself is truly pretty and charming with lots of restaurants and art galleries nestled cheeks by jowl along the narrow pedestrianised streets. Be warned though about the parking - it is limited and took us over 20 minutes of circling though 3 small car parks before we found a spot.
But was the 25 minutes drive from Antibes to Mougins worth it? Sadly in our experience - no. And we went back 3 times thinking each time the next restaurant was going to be better. So this is a review of 3 restaurants on 3 separate nights we were in Mougins.
Aux Trois Etages serves plain pedestrian french cooking. Nothing to write home about and certainly nothing memorable about the cooking whatsoever. Dine outside as the interior is not charming at all. Give it a miss.
La Gaudinade is right opposite Aux Trois Stages and looks pretty in the evening. It has a decent wine list and the cooking is slightly better than Aux Trois Etages. At least it has cosy interiors and the staff were pleasant. Check your wine bottle when it arrives at the table - you are not always served the same vintage as that on the wine list!
The worst restaurant by far (and not just in this village but throughout our 2 weeks here) has to be Resto Des Arts. Think airline food and you would be doing the airlines a disservice! All our main courses came with the same overboiled bland vegetables with the most appallingly tasteless ratatouille imaginable. And it was clear from the way the vegetables were 2 diminutional instead of 3 that they were possibly plated and then stacked of top of each other. The vegetables looked "plate pressed" which may explain why the waiters kept saying not to touch the plate as each plate is then put on a hot salamander to warm the vegetables? The cooking was simply appalling. Do not not be fooled by the fairy lights and cosy looking decor or the campy maitre-d. It is quote simply what a restaurant should not be...
We heard good things about La Place de Mougins. It looked very smart and was priced accordingly. Perhaps we should have tried that first instead of wasting 3 nights trying different places.

This was our favourite restaurant visit in Mougins. It's has a great quirky French ambiance and the waitress was lovely and made us feel very welcome. The food was delicious and there was a great choice on the menu. Everyone at our table had a great meal. We enjoyed the atmosphere and it seemed there were a lot of locals eating here. We will definitely come back next year. Next time, we will ask to sit nearer the door as it was a very warm night and we sat at the very back upstairs which was quite hot. We were a party of 7 and the outside was limited on Seating. But it is a delightful place to go.

At the heart of the mediaeval village of Mougins, the Restaurant L'Amandier has become a legendary place of pilgrimage for the world’s gourmet diners. Now completely refurbished, L'Amandier has reopened under the leadership of Denis Fétisson, but with total respect for the ethos of Roger Vergé: Innovation, Sophistication and Authenticity. This transformation also introduces 3 new features:• The ground-floor Boutique offers an impressive selection by Denis Fétisson of fine tableware and authentic local produce.• The Roger Vergé Lounge for 20 diners, designed and decorated with personal input from Denise Vergé. A ‘Spécial Roger Vergé’ menu will be served here as a tribute to the creator of Cuisine du Soleil.• On the top floor, the Cookery School is run by Denis Fétisson, who offers personalised cookery classes and even the opportunity to prepare a whole meal alongside the chef himself.
Seated on the Terrace of this high-class restaurant perched on a hilltop high above the Cote d'Azur, stretch your eyes over the panoramic landscape, smell the fragrance of Provence and feel a million miles away from it all. The food is artistically prepared, delicious and filling. The wine is pricey and the service not perfect, but the overall experience is memorable. Stroll the charming village streets before or after lunch and see why Picasso made this beautiful place his home.

MAITRE RESTAURATEUR. Traditional French Restaurant, Quiet and friendly place with terrasse. Very complete menu, french cuisine home made. We are not in the old city. Welcome.
This place is rated high..I was expected a great experience in terms of food and service...instead it was really average compared to the price paid for the meal! Moreover wine was terrible...How is it possible to be so well rated? Barely I give 3 stars out of 5! NOT WORTH IT!

Very nice evening meal here with friends.
A little bit pricey but Mougins restaurants often attract a higher price.
My lamb dish was delicious. I ate every mouthful much to my husbands disappointment,
Its cosy, quaint and the staff are very welcoming.
Would definitely go back and I can recommend.

Our second visit to Le Clos Saint Basile, and the food was at least as good as last time. Really excellent throughout, although they might be in danger of over-feeding you, with an amuse bouche, a little cup of parsnip veloute, and a "pre-dessert" just...MoreDear Customer, thank you for taking the time to write in Tripadvisor your impressions. The team loved your comment. Best regards

Restaurant at Le Club Mougins with booking only , a Diamond Resorts International property .
Staying at Club Mougins for a couple of weeks & wanted to support the on site restaurant. Cedric the chef is so enthusiastic & deviates from the menu should you wish to change the odd thing. I had salmon with risotto which was absolutely delicious & my husband wanted the grilled prawns but as a main dish, which again was no trouble. Nothing is too much trouble here and Cedric is the perfect host. Will definitely be back.

Come and enjoy a Terrace with the most beautiful view at the entrance of the old village of Mougins. We welcome you in an ornate frame from May, 7/7days.Venez profiter d'une terrasse avec une des plus belle vue a l'entree du vieux village de Mougins.Nous vous accueillons dans un cadre fleuri a partir du mois de maiet ceux 7/7jours.
After a couple of weeks in Provence we wanted a lighter lunch than our usual fare and decided to try La Cave de Mougins, located near the main parking lot for the old town. We decided on the duo meat and cheese (charcuterie and fromage) platter with addition of the salad. And, since we were driving, opted to get wine by the glass (a 2012 Gigondas and a local young rosé). The food and wine were exceptional, and the food portions very large...should have ordered for one. Total bill was about 61 euro, a bit pricey, but on line with the area. Also, we could have cut back on the size of the order and saved a bit.
The server was very good, spoke some passable English (against my terrible French). We were the only ones having a lunch there that day (a Thursday). They have a huge wine selection and I wish we could have spent more time there sampling the vintages.
And nice views from the Terrace, too!

A group of our friends celebrated a milestone birthday at Villa Archange last week. I had never heard of this restaurant which has 2 Michelin stars and was very pleasantly surprised. We chose the discovery menu which was beatifully prepared. The birthday cake at the end was fantastic. Chocolate moose and chocolate cake in layers, a perfect end to an excellent meal.
