Here is arguably the best 'fast food ' on the dreary shopping strip of this vastly over-rated town..Oh the setting IS wonderful..& IF you're lucky enough to live in a fantastic villa/apartment overlooking Lake Maggiore ~ well that's your good luck..but all the 'famous' names in high street shopping in Zurich (inc surprisingly GLOBUS) a vibrant retail shopping experience doth not make--style & substance cannot be found here.
Tired & outdated mostly, fashion (such as it is ) barely rising above mediocrity..this is no place to waste your time..a walk down to the water's edge a far better occupation..I suggest you cut your losses & quickly dash across to Ascona where TRUE style awaits..trust me!,... I've just done it!
PS you'll most likely eat better there also

Chose this trattoria because of it long-standing Michelin status. Hearty, fine Italian dining at a really good price. Good wine list. Try their Risotto - its perfect! They could expand their dessert menu a little, but otherwise a lovely little trattoria worth visiting! Meal for 5 cost us €120 with wine!

Located in Porto Ceresio, is a little cute lakeside town with a nice boardwalk on the lake very close to the Swiss border, well just in front of the lake is located the town of Morcote, already the Swiss part...
There are not many restaurants in this town, around 5 (2 or 3 restaurants, 2 pizzeria eateries, 1 Sandwich eatery) and they are always full... Outside of this “trattoria” is just like a normal inviting lakeside restaurant with no direct lake view but hidden behind plants, with their menu exposed; inside nice ambiance, clean, pretty decorated and inspiring... the prices are just those average for a lakeside restaurant, of course not cheap for Italian mid-class standards but maybe good priced for Swiss or German standards ...
Regardless of the prices, their small proposal as classic Italian homemade cooking, well, let's discuss it... We had fried pumpkin blossoms which was just OK (oily); main dish cheese and pepper pasta (bucatini cacio e pepe): the pasta noodles were over-cooked well maybe some people like over-cooked not “al dente”; the ravioli was just OK even though I had the impression that they were not fresh but defrosted but the sage and butter sauce (a classic sauce for the ravioli) noticed that the sage leaves were not fresh but made from frozen (shrink) leaves and currently is summer so plenty of fresh sage leaves can be found... and the “acciughe prezzemolate” which translated literally mean anchovy fillets with parsley.... we expected fresh anchovies cooked or marinated whatever way with parsley or whatever herbs instead they were those taken out from those anchovy fillets in oil jar or can, widely available at the supermarkets... and no trace of parsley... we know very well their flavor since we have those at home too... this dish (cost 9.00 euro and in the supermarket can get them at 3.00 euro more or less and still left over) I would consider it an insult... The dessert? They offer “homemade” cakes but they are those taken out from those ready-to-serve cakes sold widely at the supermarkets (funny because had a slice of that exact cake days ago at home!), so another insult... The wine offered (a white Arneis from Piedmont) is good, selection of wines not bad as well as the service...
Fantastic for those who don't know how Italian cuisine should be; no offense for those who liked and appraised this place as great but in my opinion (and ironic the name of the place as “Time lost” or better “time wasted”) better have a pizza and avoid this place...

Nice and lovely location. They arrange a very tasty breakfast based on home-made cakes and fresh fruit juice, followed from high quality brunch with several tipical salumi from the region, well cooked risotto and cosy selection of desserts. Very good quality. Friendly and kind staff contribute to sucessful day. Need to come back for a private dinner.

Nice ambience outdoors while still under the vaulted ceiling of this typical Ticinesi arcade. Friendly staff and good service. Our group of four had a variety of their offerings, such as spaghetti carbonara and spaghetti pesto, Lasagna of the house while I enjoyed their Polenta con Coniglio (Rabitt). Good rich food, friendly service. Unfortunately we were seated inside as all tables outside were taken. But that did not hamper our enjoyment of the food, wine and service. With the coffee we were even served complimentary cookies. Good experience!

Somewhat out of the way, however worth the effort. Recent lunch was excellent. Bruschetta with tomato and basil and stuffed zucchini flowers were spectacular. Risotto ai funghi was classic and one of the best I have had. Try the Turriga red wine from Sardinia-also excellent. The restaurant overlooks Lake Lugano and has a small number of outside tables. Inside the tables are typical family style. Excellent parking, which is rare in this area. Overall a wonderful experience.

The place is located in a very suggestive environment, with Gardens really well maintained together with the old building completely and perfectly rehabilitated.
The menu is pretty creative and made with local products.
The quality of the food is excellent and its preparation is well made.
Wine is a bit expensive and the "menu degustazione" as well.
However I would recommend a visit.

Long two days working, finishing off with a nice dinner. Was pouring with rain, yet the greeting in reception with a selection of breads and pizza was exceptional. The waiters were charming, and the good that followed completely met expectations. Uniquely presented, ham on a mini-washing line, fab pizza and pasta. Good desserts and wine finished it off!

La Sosta is the a la carte restaurant belonging to the Villa Carona Hotel. It is also an historic place and a gorgeous environment. The have a choice of excellent food prepared with fresh ingredients and a large choice of very good wines, especially local wines (Merlot). The food is excellent, the service very attentive and fast. A place to go more than once.
