“Stathis” is a signature restaurant in the village of Milina with a history behind. The owners are amazing people and Sophia an excellent cook and they have been running it since 1983.
Sophia is the master in her kitchen and her dishes are yummy. The cuisine serves mainly traditional Mediterranean dishes and Seafood.
I advise that you ask for ‘meze’ or a ‘pikilia’ if you are coming here for the first time. This is mostly what we do when we come to a restaurant for the first time. In this way we can taste from a variety, (smaller portions of course) and if we like something we either return again or order a whole portion that moment. ‘Spetsofai’ is a local dish that you can find it in the whole of Pelion. I found the one here exceptional. The sausages in the dish were juicy and the green papers flavorsome.
Sophia was telling me that all Vegetables she uses come from local Gardens, and seafood is the catch of the day. Sea shells were alive and were moving the moment I put some lemon on. What a delicacy! Traditional local dishes –magirefta is the Greek word. Dishes like mousaka, pastitsio, briam, staffed tomatoes and peppers are also served here.
Seafood -shells, sardines, anchovy, octopus and squid are the most popular in Greek taverns. You should know that snappers, red mullets, sword fish, and fish of this class do cost a lot both in Greece and in Europe but of course one can do with just as good fish and pay less if he knows what to order.
Grilled sardines are popular in tavernas and restaurants and if they are truly fresh, they are a ‘must try’ dish -not to mention how nutrient they are. The ones we had were cooked to perfection. The owners pointed out that they had purchased everything minutes before we got to the restaurant and it was true. We could tell that from the taste, the colour and flavor. Anchovy (gavros) is another popular and cheap fish you can try.
The fresh steamed mussels were fantastic, and I had the whole dish to myself that night. Sardines were heavenly –the best I had for days. The grilled octopus was tender and juicy to perfection. Don’t miss Sophia’s oregano burgers especially if you are vegetarian. Between us there are several alternatives for vegetarians –a combination of unbeatable starters that you can try here.
Nicely set right on the waterfront, the tavern has a nice ambience and you can hear the waves and the tide of water splashing on the coast while you enjoy your meal. Prices are ok and it is not considered an expensive restaurant. Be sure to bring along your camera to catch the breathtaking sunset.
There was a dinner party, a reunion actually of friends coming from different parts of Europe and they had it here at Stathis taverna. I watched how professional the kitchen staff was and all 30 probably more customers were served shortly after they gave their order. The cuisine met their requests and everybody was satisfied judging from the hugs and smiles. It was obvious that they did have a good time like we did.
We will surely return because of the impeccable service, the tasty and delicious dishes and the beautiful village. Thank you Sophia and Stathis for the nice company you kept us that night.

Our favourite place to eat in Horto during a 2 week holiday this summer. The specials were always interesting and all the dishes well cooked and often with a little twist on the usual Greek fare. Meals were nicely served with better cutlery, glasses etc than are often used. The organic local wine is good and great value.
Our only disappointment was the lack of sea food but that may have been a result of how few tourists were in the village at the time.

The service in this place (recommended by our landlord!) was SO APPALLING I can't even remember what the food was like! The waiters treat you as though you're lucky to be eating in their establishment (when the village offers at least another 10 far better restaurants). Then they tell you the day's special (1 dish) and immediately ask how many portions you want. When you say you'd rather see the full menu because the dish of the day isn't to your liking (in our case, pork souvlaki, in a restaurant right on the sea!!!), they look at you as if you've asked for the moon, then grudgingly bring you ONE menu for EIGHT people. Ridiculous. Never again.

This tavern is lost amongst lush green hills overlooking the Aegean sea. It's a very quiet and picturesque place on the way to Kastri beach and there is no way to find it by chance unless you go to this beach or have read about it in travel guides. And there are many reasons for this tavern to be referred and cited in Travel guides. Apart from its position the main reason is the amazing food it offers to its customers. There is always a good variety of really homemade food to choose from and everything you may try it's delicious.
For starters we ordered a splendid fava and a super-delicious ftried tomato pancakes (or tomato balls) with yogurt sauce. The first main was veal with mustard sauce and gratinated potatoes, a really fantastic plate. Tphe "star of the dinner", however, was the second main, lamb roasted slowly in a wood heated oven with tomato and served with tasty roasted potatoes. It was so crisp from outside but so tender and juicy, almost melting in the mouth. Try it.
Service was very friendly and informative. Prices were normal.
DON'T MISS IT !!!

This pretty olive-painted restaurant with its matching checked table cloths, is on the un-busy main road, right on the cross-roads in Milina and was exactly what we were looking for in the way of traditional home-made Greek cuisine. The restaurant, which has antiques hanging on the wall such as a typewriter, radios and farming implements, has been opened for around two years and each year, is making a name for itself and gaining a very good reputation, as everyone is commenting on how good the meals are again this year! As we hit some unexpected heavy rain showers in June on our visit this year, we ate inside in the restaurant on two nights running and each time, we had some very good locally produced wine and food, (made from Grandma’s recipes!) We made some new friends and also bumped into some “old” friends, that we had met up with nearly 4 years ago! When the sun shines, (as it usually does!) Milina is the best place to be to watch the spectacular sunsets, with the sky changing colour many times before the sun actually sets and of course, you may even get to see a dolphin ...or two!

When in Horto we always visit Casablanca! A lovely place to chill out and our sons love the ice cream, the waffles and the crepes, and we enjoy the ice coffee and one ore two Mythos. The service is most welcoming!

One of the best tavernas in this area. Stunning home made Greek food made by a very talented young chef and served by his lovely girlfriend. A lovely Terrace at the front with views of the Pagasitic Gulf and Mountains, a beautifully decorated and furnished interior, and a shady garden area at the back. Can't wait to return next year.
