Belgrade's long and storied history is suggested by its architecture, which varies from Byzantine and Ottoman to neoclassic and romantic buildings in the older neighborhoods, and from Art Nouveau to brutalism and neo-Byzantine design in New Belgrade. The city's many theaters, museums, monuments and opera houses boast a deep and fissured cultural life while the beaches and rivers attract sunbathers, sports enthusiasts and partygoers on the popular floating river barges that serve as nightclubs.

This small chapel is built at the site of a spring. It is nicely kept and appears to be in good shape. It is located in the northeast of Kalemegdan Fortress, just outside the wall.

Here one can listen to musicians play their instruments, a clown and hip-hop Group perform while walking and do window shopping or stop for a bite at one of the many cafes and restaurants along the street, and of course it is Nice to walk without thinking about cars. We walked here many times every day during Our stay in Belgrade!

or the Millennium towers, it witnessed the World war I, was renovated over the years and is still under renovation, the lower part hosts exposition of international artists, and the upper part is open and the view is worth the effort taking the tiny stairs up!

I have been to this place many times in the past but unfortunately it’s in constant decline due to lack of master plan and poor protection of heritage. Lots of mish mash neon lights and modern signs which they are out of place and certainly don’t fit with overall character of this place. It’s becoming over touristic than what used to be. However, please don’t be put off by my comments as I would still go again again. If you haven’t been there then it’s a must visit. Lovely restaurants and bar. Try to go barcode for a nice drink with live Jazz

We were taken to the tower on the way to a tour to Oplenac, so it wasn't originally part of our intended itinerary. However having been driven there it was worth taking the lift to the top of the tower (300 din, or 150 for retired people) - the view of Belgrade is somewhat distant though. Also near the tower is the top of Mt. Avala where there is the Tomb of the Unknown Hero - a very impressive monument designed by the sculptor Ivan Mestrovic. The road up to the top and down again is long and sinuous - I would imagine that getting here under your own steam would be difficult and I wouldn't rate it as one of the key things to do in Belgrade. However the surrounding scenery is beautiful and it would be a great place to go for a long and strenuous walk!

Belgrade's privileged location is due to its main river, the Danube. In this, it shares the views and the flavor the river gives to some of Europe's top cities (Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, etc.). In addition, in Belgrade, the Danube joins its waters with the Sava, another great river, and the Topciderka, a much shorter river that contributes to the waterways of urban Belgrade. The Danube brings life to the city, with its multiple Bridges and lush vegetation. Some of the n icest new residential and commercial Neighborhoods of the city are along the river, as are recreational areas.
