Restaurette Schierzicht is a family owned business. The harbour played a big role in in the history of the company as this is where the fish initially came from. Today Lauwersoog is on the border of a National Park called 'Lauwersmeer' and the world Heritage ' Waddenzee'. Come inside and enjoy the view over the harbour and of course the Great variety of Fresh fish.
Situated direct at the harbour and near to the ferry to Schiermonnikoog, this is a quick eat restaurant. The food was tasty and the service was quick. The prices for small snacks were reasonable but the menus were pricey. The large room felt more like a cantine than a restaurant but it is fine for a quick, good meal.

't Korensant is the most prominent building in the small village of Molenrij (translated: "row of mills", but no mills are there anymore). The maître de cuisine is also chef at the nearby restaurant Schathoes Verhildersum, and has set his targets at a high level. You may have a seat in the old building, but a table in the greenhouse at the backside is very pleasant as well. Cooking is fine; the restaurant has been awarded a Bib Gourmand, indicating that the French know all corners of the Netherlands quite well!

I'm citing the slogan of a famous Rotterdam fish shop, which very well summarizes the core business of 't Ailand (island). Opening hours are limited, but can be retrieved from the - extremely slowly working - website. True, most fishermen are not whizzkids. But "fishkids" they will be, certainly Friday after 3pm, when the fresh catch is brought in. We came in for a Sandwich with warm-smoked salmon, which was OK. The espresso was surprisingly good - not what you typically get in Dutch fishers' ports!

The restaurant is renamed in The Golde Stek which means an excellent location. Well it is a excellent location with a perfect view over the Lauwersmeer. The restaurant itself is nothing specail. We had a family dinner with 8 persons and it was not to busy on a sundayafternoon. Still we had to wait much to long for our main course. The quality was very average. So at the end it was nothing special...

Schade.

During a recent trip to Friesland we had lunch at this rtsaurant. It is located very near the Lauersmeer and a lovely old building. For lunch we decided to have starters from the a la carte menu, rather than just a sandwish. Wise choice: we had a great meal, not too large but very tasty and imaginative. We started with a cold choice of smoked salmon, smoked eel and lovely tiny shrimp from the North Sea. After that we had well prepared scallops and a little fish-croquette, a bit like a crab-cake. A lovely Viognier form the South of France was a good companion to the food. The smoked eel came from a local "smoker" and the tiny shrimp were locally caight and peeled. Great place!

De Theefabriek is een unieke combinatie van Nederlands enige theemuseum, een sfeervolle theeschenkerij met wellicht de meest uitgebreide theekaart ter wereld en een geurige theewinkel... een paradijs voor de theeliefhebber!
The landscape of the province Groningen has a unique emptiness that not all know how to appreciate but I love and adore it. There, in the middle of nowhere you can spoil yourself with tea and pastries served in a beautifully renovated (abandoned) church. The menu serves hundreds of teas, and my absolute favorite is the "Thé Complet" where tea (or coffee!) is served with sandwiches, muffins and scones. And those scones (with cream and strawberry jam!) have made me lost in the world. Ever since I ate them I try to find something that even remotely tastes the same. Thus far without any result.

The Netherlands can be so unexpected. Even if you know the lovely Groningen region it still can be a pleasant surprise. A friend had advised us to go to Leens and eat in ‘T Schathuys, facing Borg Verhildersum. Walking from the parking we felt in love with the place. It was a sunny day and the trees gave the right refreshing shade. We did not want to leave this scenery for the coming hours so we took a 4 course lunch. Leens is located only a few miles from the sea so we chose to have fish. This appeared to be a marvellous choice. We had 2 courses with fish and one with scrimps and scallops in between. We finished with Cheese served on an exceptional plate of the famous Dutch contemporary painter Hans Leijerzapf.
The wine did not distract our attention from the food, although the sweet red wine from Spain that accompanied the cheese was a pleasant surprise.
