Grevenmacher (Luxembourgish: Gréiwemaacher) is a commune with town status in eastern Luxembourg, near the border with Germany. It is the capital of the canton and the district of Grevenmacher. The town is situated on the left bank of the Moselle River, in a wine growing region.

Although we live in New Hope, Pennsylvania, once a year we travel to Mertert, a small town just inside the Luxembourg/Germany border to dine at Restaurant Joel Schaeffer. We 've been coming for 10+ years, ever since we accidentally discovered it.
This is a small, elegant restaurant serving French style food in a relaxing environment. It's a family affair. Joel, the chef cooks in the kitchen, his mother waits on tables. The elegant clientele with the occasional Hermes handbag seem to settle in for a tasting menu lasting about three hours.
Our menu featured six principal courses including foie gras, sea bass carpaccio and ostrich filet. The six courses are supplemented by four others including the amuse bouche, tapenade with cucumber spears, glugwein flavored ice cream and small pastries after dessert.
The tasting menu was excellent. It ran 67 euro per person, which is amazingly reasonable. The wine list features about 50% Luxembourg wines, the balance from France and the rest of the world. It's reasonably priced too.
They are proud that most of their ingredients come from within a 20 mile radius. Seafood is the exception, since Luxembourg has no coastline.
The restaurant has a "bib gourmand" rating from Michelin, meaning they offer a three course lunch of high quality at a reasonable price.
Are there negatives? Yes. You have to get there. It's about a two hour drive from Frankfurt, although it's pretty close to the city of Luxembourg.
This is one of the best restaurants we have ever visited, which is why we keep coming back.

This is going to be a short review, cause I discovered only positif points.
The service is amazingly friendly, changes to the regular dishes are made without discussion and a natural smile, although we were sitting at the real end of the terrasse, we didnt need to call service , they always had an eye on us without being pushy ! Just excellent.
The dishes were opulent, nicely dressed and really tasty, I had a Steak (300gr) and i was asked twice if it was prepared the way i wanted. Almost every regular dish comes with a salad you can compose yourself at a salad buffet, the menu offers all range of taste.
The view outside is an eyecatch and really idyllic.
Price/quality/quantity , just all in harmony, a place i certainly return.
Besides the restaurant they have hotelrooms, the place is easily accessible by train or bus.

We stayed in the apartments here too and found the experience all round very enjoyable.
The restaurant was always busy but service was good and quality of the food high. Our children were made welcome.
The apartment was big, clean and comfortable. They even delivered restaurant food upstairs for us.
All very good value for money and friendly service. Great stay.

We offer all fresh cuisine lunch.Regularly changing buffet assortment and our excellent a la minute range in the 7 days fresh and delicious available.
Been eating in this restaurant for the last 5 years. Quality been good. The food taste is like the one made at home . Simple but well presented . The daily soups are always hot being excellent during the cold weather.

Wonderful location between the vineyards on one side and the river Mosel on the other side .Excellent food and good service , no need to mention the great wines available on their list .I really recommend the luxembourgish and german white wines . Regarding the menu I can only confirm that the " Homard Poisson " as starter and the main menue " Duo de Poissons "were simply unique .And last but not least in order to finish such an unforgettable menue one should take the " Assiette Gourmande " My recommendation for the wine : a Riesling Alte Reben 2009 . Simply enjoy this pleasant meal !

The Auberg du Lac has been renewed. The restaurant has nice bright colours. It is clean and the service is friendly. The food was well presented and had good taste. Unfortunately I found one hair in my tomato soup.

Nice restourant with really good food that taste like homemade kitchen. The service was kind and the food was good and the portions are quite big. Interior is pleasant and it is nice for big groups but also for smaller ones too. For me it was nice food and atmosphere.

The Hotel Simon's has a restaurant located in 1 floor. Last visit 3 years ago. Same good service and food. We had: Zander with spargel. The fish was fresh and tasty.
The restaurant has plenty of day like due to the big glass windows. Nice parking and free.

We been in this restaurant in anverage 2 times per month since 2010. Food Quality, Service and Presentation has not changed. Saturday 03.01.15 we had for lunch : Small calamari salad, minestrone soup, agnolotti salmone and pappardelle calabrese. Just Excellent.
