Totally recommend the "tostadas de pollo". Overall, the food was really good, the waiter was kind and we didn't have to wait long for our food. Is not a romantic place, it looks like an average hotel restaurant, but I totally recommend it. In Comitan, there are not many places to eat great food, so you should totally visit this place!

We found El Caldero when wandering close to our posada, a few blocks away from the main square. It was super. We ordered main courses and drinks, and recieved complimentary tostadas/tortillas with frijoles and cheese. After we hungrily devoured these we received another helping! The pickled and spicy salsas were great too. The main courses turned out to be brothy affairs, which we weren't expecting but enjoyed a lot. It was pretty quiet when we went (granted, it was early evening and midweek) so if you're in town we'd strongly recommend you go and give the place your support!

We were very excited when Reading the menu. There were so many interesting flavor combinations. Our expectations were quite high. However, the food didn't live up to it. It lacked flavor. The star ingredients didn't shine, you could barely taste them. The portions were very small. We had ravioli which came with 4 very deep fried (???) raviolis deposited in a little bit of sauce. Presentation was beautiful but we couldn't even taste the goat cheese that was promised. We also had 3 different tapas. Again, seasoning was lacking, flavors didn't stand out. Pretty restaurant and location, nice presentation but food was disappointing.

We went at around 3PM on a weekday and the food was great, and the price was amazing. 45 pesos for "comida corrida" which came with tortilla chips and a chipotle sauce, the main dish, and we bought a glass of agua de Jamaica.
The place is nice and fancy, and the chef and staff are very friendly. I recommend this place to anyone looking for an affordable meal in a clean and hip place.
I will add that they also have more expensive options like sushi, burgers, and different cuts of meat.

While in Comitan, we enjoyed a comida at this restaurant. Although it is not centrally located, transportation by taxi and/or combi was easy and affordable. This was a special comida - we celebrated the 15th birthday of my dear friend's son. Everyone's meal was delicious. A special touch was a slice of birthday cake with a lighted candle and Las Mananitas via the music system.

Regional flavors fused with haute cuisine techniques . A pleasure being your palate.
Made a pitstop in route to Montebello..simply blown away on the modern twist to regional cuisine. Tad expensive but well worth it. Hats off to the chef!

Este restaurante es muy pintoresco, desde las mesas hasta el grifo del baño son muy especiales, parece que te transportas a otro lugar. La comida es muy rica y sobre todo tradicional.

We visited here with the family of our Mexican friends. They consider it one of the best restaurants in town. We had the stuffed fish fillet and the broiled shrimp. It included a vegetable and rice side. Yum. Portions were just right. I had a couple of coffee colored Indio beers on the rocks! Very nice. There was live music and lots of natural light. We were essentilly in a garden. The chefs are from Cancun and New York, we were told.

Small bookstore. Local organic coffee (french press), tea. Big tables, good free wi-fi. We don´t serve food but we have the best books in town.
We visited there every day during our stay in Comitan. The homemade chocolate cake is a delight. If you are lucky (like we were) there is a cultural event happening. The place itself is very cozy and with its inner yard it offers a nice...MoreThank you very much for your kind words. Meeting you both was great :)
