The Horn of Plenty has been thrilling guests for 50 almost years with some of the South West's very best food, drink and accommodation. This multi-award winning, independently owned Country House Hotel and Restaurant has 4 AA stars and 2 AA rosettes for fine dining. Food is high on the agenda here, with 90% of produce sourced locally. Service is everything you'd hope for: warm, welcoming, friendly and helpful, without a hint of stuffiness. The hotel stands high on a hill, overlooking 5 acres of beautiful Gardens and wild orchards, and beyond that, the breathtaking scenery of the Tamar Valley. 16 stylishly furnished en-suite bedrooms offer outstanding comfort and luxury. Most have balconies overlooking the valley.
Decided on The Horn of Plenty for dinner based on the good food guide (GFG). Food was good, not massively imaginative, but well cooked and presented. I was particularly impressed with the local input in to the menu; the quality of the ingredients really came out. Food was a bit salty for my taste.
Lovely setting in an old country manor house but thought the decor/ambiance was a bit old fashioned, reasonably well maintained but not wow. Lighting did not help - too harsh, bit bright. The weather also was not good and unfortunately did not show off the surrounding countryside.

An excellent birthday celebration with friends. The ambiance is good and the food outstanding. Make sure you visit if you are in the area. Check opening times first. It's a great experience - the tasting menu is your only choice and it's competitively priced and...MoreThank you for your comments. We're pleased you enjoyed your celebrations with us. I'm sorry we can't relocate, but how about you moving to Cornwall? I can recommend it!! Hope to see you in 2018, on your next visit to the West Country. Gail

We dropped in for coffee - there were about a dozen people - from housewives to businessmen already their - either finishing breakfast or just having a chat. Clearly, and deservedly, very well patronised. Good coffee, great teacakes & an excellent shop - the gammon steaks we had the night after were first class. When we drove past later (lunchtime), the car park looked full - in mid-March. Certainly 'worth a diversion' as the fat man might have said.

The Who'd Have Thought It Inn is a traditional country pub serving great food, wines, ciders and local ales with a warm welcome. The menu consists of a variety of delicious classic pub dishes, all homemade using locally sourced ingredients and an ever changing specials board using the best seasonal produce. Our Christmas menu is now available and we are taking bookings for Christmas parties. The Who'd is a great location for your Christmas party and we have 2 separate function rooms for larger parties. Whether you are dining with us or just enjoying a pint by the fire Reading the papers, we would love to see you. Families with children are very welcome and we have a children's menu and baby change facilities. Well behaved dogs are welcome in the bar areas. We are open for morning coffee from 11am every day.
Really enjoyed our visit to Who'd Have Thought it - Lunch for 3 - Beef Bourgignon and Rice/Fishcakes and Salad/Stilton Walnut and Mushroom Pie New Potatoes and Peas - welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff - described as Wheelchair Accessible (slightly tight turn at the door) Rear Door a lit of a no-no as although there is a ramp to the outer door, the main trstaurant is reached via 3 steps which would be awkward even with a ramp. Will be back soon. Cheers!

Both times I ate here were good experiences. The Thai fish cakes were great and the gammon steak with chips egg and pineapple very good. Nice attentive staff with good solid above average food.

I moved to the village at the tail end of last year and, as I always do in a new area, I investigated the local social life.
What a pleasure it was to discover The Rising Sun. In a nutshell, it is a lovely pub, great character, welcoming both locals and tourists alike! The food is filling, delicious and well priced pub food. The real ale is second to none! 6 pumps, all different and often some rare gems from small Breweries across the country! Regular live music and social events, but not at times that interrupt with meals.
It would appear Ann and Si have found the perfect balance of great pub qualities, which accommodates everyone who enjoys a traditional Cornish pub!
I will be returning many times over!

We are a typical Traditional English Country Pub. Privately owned in the same family for the past 27 years. We offer a very friendly and warm welcome by family and staff alike. Available is fine wines and superb ales. We offer traditional truly Home cooked pub favourites, Fresh Fish on the weekends and an excellent range of steaks supplied by a renowned local butcher. We are open 7 Days a Week serving food and drinks along with our carvery's on Sundays.
We visited The Manor House with friends for Sunday lunch, the welcome from the staff was friendly and professional. It was a carvery and you were called to the carvery by a member of staff, so there was no long queues.
The roasts on offer were Pork and Beef with all the regular vegetables and the addition of Yorkshire and suet puddings, it was all really delicious. Desserts were very good too.
We will definitely be going back a friendly and reasonably priced Inn.

We have just dined with friends at the Balti King in Callington again, it was as good as ever and visiting on banquet evening made the price outstanding value. The food was excellent, so was the service. Can't wait to go again!

Cosy, warm and welcoming would describe the ambience. Warm log fires and the friendly attitudes of both the family and members of staff.
What a find! Visited a couple of times last week for an evening meal. Food is spectacular and the ambience perfect. Congratulations to Sean, Kim and staff for making us feel so welcome and presenting us with an unforgettable culinary experience.
