O Paco Ducal Vila Vicosa

Reviewed By Natalia T - Silves, Portugal

We ate at a few restaurants in Vila Viçosa, and this one became our favourite. The choice of meals was superb, the service first rate, and the prices very reasonable. It is not a large restaurant, but clearly enjoyed by the local Portuguese - which is always a good sign of an enjoyable experience. For our main course, we ate chicken kebabs with salad and vegetables, all of which was deliciously succulent and filling; over coffee, we were treated to a gratuitous glass of Medronho by the host.
All in all, the ambience of the restaurant, the fine food and very friendly helpful service, and the very reasonable prices make O Paco Ducal our number one recommendation of a dining experience in Vila Viçosa.

Restaurante Maria

Dona Maria is a very nice lady who knows very well how to run the business. She will guide you throughout your meal, advising you on the day's specials and telling you the history of the restaurant. She is also de main cook, so she really knows what she's talking about.
But it is not only about the talk, it is mainly about the food: it's amazingly prepared and makes you want to sit there for hours to enjoy every bite.

Important note: O Chana do Bernardino is in the Aldeia da Serra d'Ossa, 7km outside of Redondo. We visited this restaurant for lunch and were delighted with the friendly, informative service and truly delicious food. All the dishes are typical of the region and there is so much choice it is difficult to decide. The friendly host describes each dish with enthusiasm and pride. It has air conditioning which was a relief as the temperature outside registered 36ºC. We will definitely return one day!

Adega dos Ramalhos

We arrived to Alandroal around lunch hour and noticed that a “food festival” was happening, the theme was fresh-water fish based dishes. After looking at a few menus we decided to try the “Caldeta de Barbo” at this restaurant. Besides the entrance room there’s a room with bullfight theme and another room that has huge clay barrels of wine (the typical Talhas). We had the cheese, roasted peppers and the charcuterie to start, the charcuterie was an amazing “Paio do Cachaço” from black pig. Followed by the fish soup (Caldeta de Barbo) which are quite big a portion is more than enough for two. We had the house red wine (normal) and coffees. Cost for 2 approx. 30 euros. We really enjoyed and may return if going by Alandroal at meal time.

Os Cucos

The best thing about this restaurant is the location in the middle of a park or green belt. The food is just average and 20% more than I paid for a great meal in a comparable restaurant. The wait staff was very polite and helpful but what came out of the kitchen did not match the service. Homemade potato chips were soggy.

Taverna dos Conjurados

A really excellent family run restaurant. The staff are extremely helpfull and friendly. The food is very tasty and there is an excellent choice of local wines (the house wine itself is extremely good and great value). We had a great chat with the owner and he was able to recommend many sites and activities to us.
Highly recommended both for the wonderful food and service.

A very friendly typical portuguese restaurant where local dishes are a speciality. Our Portuguese is rubbish but we were welcomed in English and the menu was explained in detail to us. I would recommend the traditional Migas and a bottle of local wine unless you're driving.
I would like to go bak there for dinner as I think it would be even better.

Narcissus

Reviewed By KeesE - Utrecht, The Netherlands

We had a perfect diner at Narcissus.
Like the hotel itself, the many taste explosions on one plate might be a bit over the top, but we enjoyed this true dining experience. Way more imaginative and creative than the Pousada.
The waitresses are friendly but very serious. Our waiter was entertaining and presented the food with some flair. With the ridiculous costumes they have to wear, this was the right attitude.
Expensive for the region, but reasonable for what is on offer or in comparison with same quality restaurants elsewhere in Europe.
The restaurant is also used for serving breakfast for the Marmoris hotel. Good selection and quality off food and drinks.

Staying in Pousada around the corner, we ventured in for evening meal Friday night. Not busy, 2-3 other tables. Lovely rustic chic decor, excellent wine selection. Food was plentiful and nice, mix-up with the starters, had pork and egg dish which was very tasty instead of the chiorizo I had ordered.
Lots of waiters flying about, seemed big disorganised although they were very pleasant. Steak was nice and good value, my wife's Dourada was 'muito bonita'.
On balance was good value and good food if not exceptional

Pizzaria a Canga

Reviewed By manwithamovingcamera - Lisbon, Portugal

Não se vai deliciar mas cumpre os mínimos. As pizzas são caseiras e fartas. O resto satisfaz quando a vontade de ir mais além vence. Bom para uma refeição rápida e simpática onde o preço deixa espaço para outros voos...
