This is a fairly large, crumbling Fort complex, well worth the short drive from Androal. Unlike the restored, beautiful Monsaraz, this is interesting to take your time and enjoy various views of the area near the Spanish border, and imagine what life might have been within its expansive walls. We were the only visitors on the day we were there...our luck, but it should be a destination for many.

The castle and the church tower form an interesting skyline for this small town. However, it is probably more interesting from the outside than from the inside. If you are headed this way already it is worth taking a look at, if you aren't you won't want to go too far out of your way to see it.

Interesting medieval castle probably erected at 12-1300’s by the king Dinos. It is often missed in the travel brochures.
If you take road N255 from Vila Vicosa through Alandroal to Reguensos Monsaraz and then approximately 2/3 of the distance a small sign "Tereno" appears. We needed to pause and swung by and suddenly we were standing in front of an impressive medieval castle. Parking takes place in front of the castle. No entry.
We went through the gate - and here we were surrounded by high walls and in the middle of the castle are just soil and vegetation. A bad staircase leads up to the wall crest where I walked a path. Exciting with a fantastic view of the landscape. No fences so let no child go up!
