Outstanding modern museum displaying locally found items from the Romans with an emphasis on mosaics from the wealthy households prevalent in the river city 2000 years ago. The inside exhibition features wonderful scale models to show where the items on display came from. The condition of the mosaics here is about the best we've ever seen. The outdoor exhibit has many of the building foundations and some of the original Roman roads to wander through. Not to be missed if driving through along the Rhone. Cheers!

Roman theater which seats 13,000.
It should be noted that most of what you'll see is a reconstruction, but it's still worth seeing. The reconstruction is based on the earlier excavations and there are some authentic bits to see. Overall it'll give you the idea of the massive Seating built into the mountain behind by the Romans almost 2000 years ago.

Vienne is a lovely town to do a walking tour of. I didn't realize that France had so many Roman ruins. In Vienne, there are several Roman ruins and this is the finest example. You cannot go into in it, but it is amazing that this structure is pretty much intact and over 2000 years old. Apparently Thomas Jefferson visited Vienne and there is a plaque honoring him near the site. If you found this review helpful please click on the thank button below.

This used to be a Cathedral but now does not have a sitting bishop. It dates to the 12th thru 16th centuries. It is a very long Romanesque and Gothic style church, not laid out in the classic style. It is here, when Guy of Burgundy became Pope that he convened a Council that in 1311 voted to dissolve the Knights Templar and that was the end of them!

A beautiful little church with some interesting statues inside. It is located in the best spot on the mountainside that gives the best view of roman theatre and the city as well as the rhone river. There is interesting Armenian cross outside the church as there are many armenians in the area that located to this region following the genocide in Turkey early in the 1900s. They were grateful to the inhabitants for providing them new life and this is a token of their appreciation. A good spot to visit on trip to Vienne.

Beautiful park, with extraordinary flowers, dedicated to the Roman road. See the stones from antiquity, that were part of the actual Roman highway. The town is dotted with Roman architecture, and is an amazing.

Not expensive compared to a new Lambo or a new Ferrari...
When do you have the chance of getting into a 300'000 dollar car and go as fast as you dare go in it? I always wanted to buy one of these, like many, cannot afford it. Or maybe you're that kind of person who can afford it but not sure what to get?
Here, you can try Lambo's, a Ferrari 430 or 458, Caterham, Audi R8 V10 BEFORE you buy.
I am done with my sales pitch as I truly enjoy this place. Between 100 and 500 euros will get you behind the wheel of one of these speed demons.
Me and the wife chose the Ferrari F355 Challenge, probably the best ever drivers Ferrari...
First the security briefing, then suit up and go ride. You can either drive or ride shotgun. If you have never been "to the edge" in a Ferrari, I suggest you have someone who knows how to drive to drive and you ride shotgun, you will cr*p your pants! Road driving and circuit driving are not the same!
On site, besides tea and coffee, there is nothing. Also check the website as some days the circuit is privatized and no outsiders can ride. Best to call ahead of time as this is very popular and full most weekends in the summer.
PS, I recommend the 300km challenge in the Audi R8 V10, you simply have to get to 300km on the straight away. Sounds easy? By the way, that's 186 miles per hour.
Enjoy the speed...

There are these amazing ancient Roman ruins right in the midst of Vienne with a lovely green space surrounding the ruins. It's quite a sight and so peaceful. It's wonderful that the ruins have been preserved and left alone for one's imagination.

One can get a good idea of what Roman life was like in the town nearby from the relics displayed in this museum adjacent to the "dig" area. Nothing extraordinary, but various examples of what Romans would have in their homes in a relatively far-off post. They have transferred several floor mosaics panels indoors here and they are quite beautiful and mostly intact. The train from Lyon takes about a half-hour and it is only a 10 minute walk from the station to this museum and the Roman town beside it. Free parking in Vienne.

This is located immediately across the River on the vehicle bridge. Their is a large modern museum that is filled with some excellent Roman floor tiles. They have taken pains not to use any tiles not originally used. After you can take a walk outside to the original bottom layout of the home with some Columns partially intact.
