Historic walking area showcases 16th-century buildings and interesting museums.
As shown in this picture, Place Henry IV is a true miror of the old times. "Ancient elegance", I would define it.

There are romantic paths for walking around the ramparts of the 13 and 17 century, and I have always this nice tour in my mind, so enjoyable in this enchanting and fairytale atmosphere and the view to the french gardens;
Vannes was in the middleage a very important fortress; there were walls and portals all around; some portals are still there, the portal : "Porte Prison" and on the place Gambetta; the other portals are destructed and houses are constructed in her place;
Vannes was a royaume breton and later on a duchy; The ancient fortress of Vannes has a wonderful park and walls to make a tour around, the tour of Connétable, is very nice; a
picturesque view over Vannes

It took more than 600 years to build this architectural wonder.

Couldn't believe the number of pleasure craft moored in the Marina when we first got into Vannes and were looking for the tourist office, right next door to the moorings ! The whole of Vannes is slanted towards the Port, Bay and then the Atlantic Ocean just a short boat trip away ! A nice place to stroll & enjoy in good weather !

Spent a pleasant morning here while staying in Vannes Centre for the weekend.
This is not within walking distance to Vannes centre but it is where the Best Western Le Roof Hotel is situated. All very calm and tranquil. Scattered with a few restaurants and a small beach and harbour but otherwise not much else.

We went to Le Ker following a hotly contested coin-flip between our 7 & 11 year olds. The entry fee is €11 for adults and €8 for chiildren, and worth every penny. It is an indoor attraction. The exhibition space tells the story of Brittany and is very informative. The exhibition design is so engaging for children, with things to touch and a the story of Brittany being shown on a video through characters. There were little spaces for them to go into and effective use of layered lighting to simulate campfires. The three kiddos were enamoured. There were also boats prows/ hills to explore and a chance to try on armour and chainmail. The gentleman who was explaining the armour was extremely knowledgeable and patient. He explained all about the armour and Brittany to our boys in English and we were really interested to learn about the similarities and differences between the Celtic peoples. We proceeded to the highlight of our visit, the 4D cinema. Our guide was so kind as to select the most exciting film for us which was about a sea battle between the Romans and the Bretons. This was about 15 mins long in 4D, so 3D visuals and features to incorporate you other senses - which I won't give away but suffice as to say that the guys pronounced it the "BEST DAY EVER!" even our 4 year old was amazed and the adults greatly enjoyed it too. After this we went to the top of the building for a a panoramic view of the area. There is a restaurant and gift shop also.

I am real serious about cheese.
I was friendly trained in Paris by the main supplier of the best restaurants.
There, I discovered that there was a difference between cheese and Cheese.
Fromagerie de Kerouzine provides the best Cheese you can get from France, and from other nearby countries as well (including Holland, UK etc.).
They buy their cheese only to cheese makers they know and trust, and to whom they pay regular visits. They continuously test new producers.
They have their own cheese-aging rooms, for different types. They take cheese out only when they think they are mature enough.
I have been a regular customer for the past 20 years. Each time I go to Vannes, I pay them a visit. I never request anything. They ask me how many people, and they just give me the best they have.
Of course, you pay for the quality. But I can guarantee that after testing their products, you'll think that you had never experienced real Cheese before (well just cheese).
It is better to have the best from time to time, than plastic-cheese every day.
Just try their 3 years old Comté ...
