This 12th-century structure, famous as the marriage site of Louis IX in 1234, is the oldest of the magnificent Gothic cathedrals in France.
A beautiful Cathedral with some fine windows, especially those above the Becket monument. Architecturally important, this is a less visited Cathedral, but merits close attention. This was one of the most powerful cathedrals in christendom. Admire the internal window in the chancel. You'll find it again in the palace if you list, and you should, the museum.
A beautiful history Cathedral in a lovely town.

OK, Sens has 27,000 people and this is a smashingly good museum. Many of the Gallo-Roman objects were discovered on site. It is housed in the Archbishop's house. That alone makes it worth the price of admission.
The art work includes two Brueghels and has some modern art too. A small collection most of which is housed in the attic. You get to see all the beams holding the roof up and the massive tenon pins holding them in place.
And there is the Cathedral Treasury. Really you could build a few people out of all the Saints' bones they have.
Down side: for a country that found and decoded the Rosetta Stone...didn't they learn anything? How about a second language or three? The Rosetta stone did. And how abut labeling everything. Are they being modest, these artifacts are good. Tell me what they are, where they came from, and when they were used. This is a common complaint of mine and not directed solely at this museum.
For pity sake they show you the official Cathedral list of relics, in Latin as written in the 12 century, but can they map the display room?? And use a more common living language?
Spend 3 hours.

Unfortunately the Office was closed for several days before the Christmas Market on 19 and 20 December. We had printed a map of the city so it was no real problem. According to the website they sell a museum pass and a map for the Cathedrale. We survived without.

Serving as the seat of the ecclesiastical court, this structure was built by Gautier Cornut, archbishop of Direction, sometime between 1230 and 1240.
Le palais synodal de Sens est l'ancien palais épiscopal: il se trouve à côté de la cathédrale. Il renferme des objets relatifs à l'histoire de Sens, notamment la statue du comte de Perraut offerte par Henri IV. A visiter.
