This natioalpark covers a great area from denmart to Germany. Lots of birds, shellfish can be dug up on the beach, driving on the beach at low tide, some people try it when the tide has turned and get some expensice damages on the car!

A flat sandy beach like most in this area. Wide open space with damp sand but lovely dry soft sand higher up. A favourite holiday spot for Danish people.
Not mush in the way of on beach facilities so you need to bring your own stuff with you.

We drove across the 9 km long dam which connects the island of Rømø with the Mainland at eight o'clock in the evening and were met by spectacular views. Driving to the island, there are two places to stop to take pictures and driving back to the Mainland one. definitely worth it!

The Sea Captain's House at Romo

Visit the beautiful Sea Captain's House on Romo. The house is an intact whaler's home from the 1700s. Here, you will find both a huge sperm whale skeleton, a unique view of the Wadden Sea and elaborate decor from the period. It is open for visits at Easter, and in the summer and autumn. The Sea Captain's House on the island of Romo in south-western Jutland is a preserved whaler's home and one of the island's old houses that were once owned by wealthy families. The name of the residence refers to the captains, who in the 17th and early 18th centuries commanded large whaling boats, which went on trading trips and long whaling expeditions in the North Atlantic. The Sea Captain's House has a cosy cafe where you can enjoy views over the Wadden Sea. Admission to the Sea Captain's House on Romo is free.

Unfortunately our schedule wasn't flexible enough, we could not visit Roemoe on other day than Monday. And on Mondays the museums are pretty much closed.
However the place is still a little pearl on this interesting island. The house belonged to a captain from a whale hunting ship and his wife who was the farmer at that time.
The house is real Frisian which makes it even more special.
On the island there is a huge flood every ( ca. ) 30 yrs, when the water comes in to the houses - that is why they are built on little hills and why do they have boat on the 2nd floor (in case of flood they would be able to leave the house, when the water is right under the 2nd floors window).
Oh and there is a complete whale skeleton in the house, fascinating - isn't it?

Well this is not the most spectacular of sights, in fact we passed it twice without noticing it. But when you do find it and read its history on the sign it makes a huge impression. How strange that this fence on Rømø is built af whalebones from whales caught so many years ago in the icy waters between Greenland and Norway. You should combine this visit with a visit to Kommandørgården very close by. Here you will find the complete story of the whalers of Rømø, along with at huge whale skeleton. The house is beautifully restored and absolutely worth a visit. Wich is free by the way!
