While visiting family in my home town of Portarlington for the week, my daughter and I took a day trip on the ferry to do some shopping and eating. We took the 7am service which arrived at Docklands at 8.30am, then it was a 10 min walk towards Spencer St where we caught the 96 tram to the Mall. The city circle tram is practically in front of where the ferry docks if you prefer to take that. We took the 5.30pm service back, arriving in Portarlington at 7.00pm. Staff on board are friendly and helpful. There is free wifi and also a charging station if you need to top up your phone battery. We sat on the upper deck and there was a TV on low volume which worked on the morning trip but wasn’t working on the return trip so they piped classical music instead - think I would prefer no music. The windows weren’t clean due to dried salt spray which is a bit unfortunate. There’s not much to look at, but it’s a relaxing journey compared to driving into Geelong and taking the train. The last/first 40 mins of the journey is at snail’s pace as they apparently aren’t allowed to go faster. I think a 6.00pm departure from Docklands would be more convenient for regular commuters than 5.30pm as you have to be ready to board 15 mins earlier so if you work till 5.00pm you won’t make it unless you work close by. We would have appreciated an extra half hour for shopping too Overall a great service and I hope they can continue it and see it grow.

For the Love of Grape offers a relaxing and memorable experience to the variety of wineries on offer in the Yarra Valley, Bellarine Peninsula, Mornington Peninsula & Echuca wine regions. Our suggested tours include pamper & wine, full day or half day tours (inc lunch) and caters for corporate functions/hens or bucks groups. All clients have the option of selecting the wineries to visit or tailoring a day tour to suit the interests of their group.
I came across this company on the internet and was impressed with its professionalism from beginning to end. Leah was fantastic in allowing us to choose the wineries of our choice and our driver Greg was knowledgeable and informative and allowed us to take our time throughout the day. My Duneed Estate for lunch was an excellent choice and all the wineries were really good to deal with. This would make a fantastic birthday gift for friends or family. A really great day.

The Portarlington Mill is the most amazing 3 story beautiful stone icon and not only does it stand for itself with an interesting history of being a flour Mill, then a home which became dereclict, to be restored to a standard that can only be described as 'with love' for the building it was and now is. The third floor shows the history through out many decades and the first two floors are now often used for local talented Artist Exhibitions and the famous Bellarine Patchwork & Quilters Exhibition with the added spice of textile art as a biennial occurance. A wonderful place for wedding photos, for photographers and for those who just love history and art forms. It is around the corner from the pristine Portarlington beach, a walk from the shops, parks and Playgrounds or you can grab a coffee and a bite to eat from the town and relax under the shelter of the lovely old trees on the grass for a picnic.

The Portarlington Grande Hotel still has that wonderful old fashioned pub feel with a touch of class in the dining room, displaying the history of Portarlington, an open fire and cosy booths for a touch of romance and large tables for a party crowd. Upstairs the balcony provides wonderful sea views and is a relaxing place to watch the activity on the streets in the park and on the pier. The menu has variety, Asian, beautifully cooked roasts with crunchy skinned potatoes, magnificently cooked seafood that is not overdone nor raw in the middle, just mouth-wateringly perfect. Steaks and slow cooked meats that melt in the mouth, and I loved the fact that the Italian dishes are authentic. Using fresh produce and caring way it is cooked and presented is equal to many 5 star restaurants. You can look forward to a meal that will not only seduce the pallete but is a serve that will accommodate every size appetite. There is a play place for kids outside as well. Staff are friendly and helpful, the chefs are very amiable if you have a special dietary need . I take all my friends to the grande Hotel, Portarlington and enjoy each dining experience. Liane Jonas

We were met at Portarlington pier By Angus, our tour guide, after coming off the ferry from Melbourne. He offered a tour around the peninsula. My wife & I took up his offer along with other people from the ferry. It was an excellent 2.5 hrs. We were taken to the main places of interest with an entertaining history lesson along the way.
I would highly recommend this tour.
