This is a very beautiful place to visit with the wonderful chateau and Gardens with the Waterfalls and stunning vistas. There is also the "mountain" and Forests with the abundance of wildlife, the lake where you can hire a boats and take a leisurely row around whilst taking in the awesome sights from the lake. Alternatively there is a train which travels in three directions giving a much less tiring aspect of the sights and to finish off your day, a really tasty meal in the hotel restaurant, which is no where as expensive as you would expect again with large portion sizes and excellent value for money, but just be aware of the return bus times if you have travelled by public transport.

Castle of Diosgyor

Reviewed By Drazsika - Budapest

Although I've lived most of my life in Hungary and studied quite some Hungarian history in a Hungarian university I never realized this castle would be something important / nice to look at.
While joking that this castle looks exactly as a kindergarten child would draw and wondering why would you build it in the valley rather than on the neighbouring hills we thought it was really fascinating.
The renovation of the interiors made the place look almost new with a couple interactive areas, lot of place to wonder around - don't miss the views from the top and have your children (or yourselves) play around in the blacksmith's chamber :)

State Forest Railways of Lillafured

Reviewed By zzao - Bristol

Spent a lovely day in the area around here, including a wonderful outdoors eatery and the Gardens at Lillafured, then took this old diesel train into Miskolc. It's a beautiful open air journey through the forest, passing the waterfall and Gardens, then continuing past plunging drops and on into the outskirts of the city, as the ticket collector wanders along the outside of the train, going about his business. The only thing I would warn about is even though the train moves slowly, the journey is pretty bumpy, so if motion sickness is an issue, be prepared!

Miskolc Zoo and Culture Park

Miskolc Zoo and Cultural Park opened on 20th August 1983. Our zoo is located in a 21 hectare hornbeam-oak forest connected to the Bükk National Park, this way we can also present the rich flora and fauna of the Bükk Mountains. Written records prove that King Louis the Great had established a royal game preserve in the Csanyik valley in 1355, therefore our zoo is considered to be Hungary’s oldest animal holding place. The zoo is home to around 700 specimens of nearly 130 species and varieties. Visitors can also meet the residents of a typical forest of the Carpathian Basin, the exotic animals of far away continents and native domestic animals that have become curiosities nowadays. Besides presenting animals to visitors, we would also like to draw attention to the small wonders of nature surrounding us. An educational pathway was created for this purpose to exhibit the natural values of our immediate environment. Our zoo also takes part in international breeding programmes that have made it possible for animals extinct in the wild to survive in zoos. A unique initiative was to establish a conservation statue park with life-size bronze statues of animals commemorating the species’ that became extinct as a result of human activity. Our zoo endeavours to join in the popularization of conservation and animal protection and to help environmental education reach all ages, especially the rising generations. The forest environment of Miskolc Zoo is an excellent place to make friends with nature.

The drive up the hill to get to the zoo went on longer than expected but finally we reached the car park in front of the entrance. The zoo is more of an old style, open layout without much concrete and one can enjoy a walk among the forest trees while looking at the animals. There is quite a good variety although it may not compete with larger zoos - 2 types of exotic monkeys, tigers, porcupines, various birds, pecaries. There is a an area where one can pet goats should one be so inclined. They do have some of the typical Hungarian animals such as the mangalitsa pig (with white curly hair), Hortobagyi marha cattle (maybe only one specimen), wild boar and deer. Most of the cages are more than adequate in size except for the lone European wolf than could do with a larger range and had worn out a path around his/her enclosure. The cultural park is a section with some busts and statues remembering Gerald Durrell amongs others. Altogether a pleasurable experience and well worth the visit.

From here You can enjoy an amazing view of the city unfortunately if You go to it on foot the road is disgusting and dirty. The building is one of the symbols of Miskolc but it is pretty old and not in the best condition. The city should renew it. Unfortunately, there is nothing else just the tower. You can not eat or drink something and there is not public toilette.
