Granite Gorge Nature Park

At Granite Gorge visitors have a fantastic opportunity to get close with the wild rock wallabies in their natural habitat. You can hand feed them macropod pellets which we have available. The Mareeba unadorned rock wallabies (Petrogale inornata, Mareeba race) are rare and endangered and only seen up close here. The wallabies are unique to this area of Mareeba. They are known to be on the top of a couple of mountain ranges but this is the only place they can be seen up close and fed in the wild. Possums, 5 types of gliders, Frilled necked and other lizards, 2 types of quolls, turtles and echidnas inhabit the gorge and park area. On winter nights dingo howls can be heard way down the gorge.

We enjoyed our walk around the granite gorge and were fortunate enough to see the rock wallabies .......some even had babies. The granite gorge is amazing. There are 2 routes to take do not attempt the red trail unless you have proper hiking shoes for walking as the rocks are slippery. A great little adventure

Tours of the plantation available along with microlight flights, gyrocopter flights and Segway experiences.
There was a fair bit of undercover parking which was a bonus too.

If you're in the Granite Gorge area, you must stop at Mareeba Wetlands. We only had time to do the 3km walk around the main lake but boy it was spectacular. Saw a couple of snakes and plenty of birds (typical for wetlands). If you have the time and don't mind nature walks, then this is a must see.

Emerald Creek Falls

Reviewed By GippyTraveller - Warragul, Australia

Emerald Creek Falls is about a 15 minute drive off the main road and much of the road is dirt & gravel but quite drivable in dry conditions in a family sedan.
The walk to the lookout over the falls is reasonably steep in places & I would advise you to wear good foot ware although we did it in thongs.
The walk is quite pleasant & the falls are quite large & spectacular. If you are in Mareeba & have an hour or so to spare Emerald Creek Falls is well worth a visit.

Davies Creek National Park

Reviewed By Simsam64 - Cairns, Australia

If you don't mind going off the beaten track and driving over a dirt road then this place is definitely worth while. There are signs indicating where you can swim, and the creek is so refreshing especially on a hot summers day. There are plenty of walking tracks as well. Take a picnic because there is absolutely nothing out there except nature itself.

North Queensland Gold Coffee Plantation

Reviewed By BMR18 - Brisbane, Australia

We decided to visit this coffee plantation on a day trip around the Atherton tablelands it was our first stiop after driving up from Cairns so when we arrived there we need to use the rest rooms
We were very surprised when they said they did not have any public rest rooms so unfortunately we did not get to do the tour as it would have been around an hour for the tour and then we wanted to have coffee there so just could not hang on that long
We just felt that anyone visitng here needs to know they have to stop in Mareeba and use the rest rooms there before driving out to the plantation
It is a very small family attraction but they really need to have a rest room if you are inviting and charging the public to visit
