Sitting on the Gulf of Guinea, the port city of Lome serves as the capital of Togo, a sliver of a country in West Africa. Famous for the friendliness of its people and the beauty of its countryside, Lome is the perfect place to relax after exploring Togo's hills and forests. White beaches are lined with hotels, while the interior of the city offers a series of markets for avid shoppers. Visit the Grand Marche for colorful Togo fabrics or the Fetish Market, which sells protections from evil.

This is a wonderful, lively market set along streets selling anything and everything. The colours are wonderful, people selling food, women carrying goods on their heads, traffic here and there to avoid. BEWARE ONLY take photographs with permission. Local people can quite rightly take umbrage at having cameras thrust into their faces.

You can't walk inside the monument grounds them-selfs but can see the monument well and take distant pictures. It's a huge monument. The grounds are well maintained and the very best view is from the Radisson right next door (and the best hotel in Togo)

Having been to some excellent small voodoo ceremonies in Benin and then the very large rather tousisty annual Quidah Voodoo festival we thought we would take in this market in Lome.
I cant imagine that voodoo practitioners turn up here like some Western supermarket to stock up on supplies, so I'm more of the opinion that it exists purely for tourists. That was certainly the case when we were there. Our group of 6 were joined by two more groups of 4 and 6 over a thirty minute period. Yes it could be photographic and you do get to go into a small hot hut to have some voodoo charms explained to you. All conveniently hand sized at 5000cfa each. But I suppose you're here and may as well see it but don't expect anything like a bustling authentic experience.

I only saw it from the outside, but it is in the middle of the Grand market and very hard to access. I had to fight through all the stalls in the Grand Marche to get close the church -- then there was a service going on and everyplace was filled.

When visiting Lome and needing souvenirs, this is the spot. Of special interest should be the batik died cloth paintings. These are cloths with strikingly beautiful scenes of African village life and African fauna. Prices are affordable and all sorts of textiles and carved wood items are on sale here too.

The Musee International du Golfe de Guinee is definitely the most interesting "sight" in Lome. (Far superior to the dusty old National Museum!) It is an excelent private collection of African sculpture from the last 200 years or so, with West Africa dominating. (Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso, Cote D'Ivoire, Togo, Ghana). There are some pieces from East and Southern Africa, however. There are so many pieces that the guide will invite you to ask about ones you feel drawn to rather than give you an overview. Tastefully arranged both outdoors and in brightly sunlit roomsdoors. Meticulously clean. Highly recommended.

Di donne nemmeno l'ombra; probabilmente accedono all'edificio in orari differenti.

One of the best collection of statues and masks I have ever seen from all over west Africa. All are labelled and form art f a large private collection, owned by a nice Chinese man. Worth a visit !

This is where locals go to exercise and relax. Others just spend the day squatting here. Swimming is not an option. The color of the sand is deep yellow which is beautiful against the deep blue ocean. Some parts of the beach are horribly polluted with rubbish, others are spotless and have benches under palm trees and beach restaurants. The nicer parts of the beach may be enjoyable for visitors, other parts should be avoided.
