While crowds of tourists fill Venice, Florence and Rome, Bologna remains relatively quiet in comparison. This medieval university town is charming, historic and fun to explore… and you'll find Bologna's local cuisine is light-years away from the American deli meat bearing the city's name.

We ate here twice in our visit, both times were superb. Our host and hostess were very friendly and the atmosphere superb. The menu is lovely very varied with local ingredients, and I loved the choices I made. The restaurant is very popular with locals, and fills up fast so I would recommend booking in advance.

Very nice welcome and after an Italian explanation of the handwritten menu, the cook came from the kitchen to give an English explanation. The food is prepared with a great eye for detail and tastes very good. Little surprises completed the dinner. The place is well decorated and for sure worth a visit.

I went to La Tana Dell'Orso after searching a good and cheap restaurant in Bologna in TripAdvisor. If it weren't for this website I would have never, ever found this place since it's in the middle of nowhere.
It was probably the best meal I had in Italy and by far the best one for quality/price.
I ate a Piade with ham, cheese, rucola and olive oil that was fresh, tasteful and full of flavor. I loved it!
Definitely recommend it.

One of my favourite spots in Bologna. Special atmosphere, great pasta, low prices and great location. Overall great experience that you should try!
You can take this ladies pasta home or you can eat it sitting on few chairs in this little, tiny spot. But no worries, if it is full (which i is lot of times), you can take your pasta and eat in in a bar around the corner, with which they are connected.
Pasta? Simple, but goooood. Menu depends of the day in the week.
Authentic and unique Bolognese experience!

We were told about this little jewel and came twice during 4 days in Bologna. Fun to get out of the touristy center and the food was fabulous. We particularly recommend the “tosone” (melted cheese), tortellini with pumpkin/ricotta, crescenti(little crisp flat bread) with funghi, but everything is terrific. Flavio, the owner, is so wonderful he’s worth a trip by himself! Highly recommend!

This corner has a varitety of piadine & crescioni which are tyipical breads of this region. The menu is great and they can make any combination of meats and cheeses you select too. Seat there or take it to go. I did the to-go and my piadine -parmesan cheese & prosciutto crudo- was the size of a dinner plate. The take-away bag had a plate and napkins. I ate one half out-of-the oven and the second-half later. It was as delicious even cold.

What a find this was, the owner insisted on setting up a small table in his pantry for the two of us and serving multiple courses of fresh and tasty home made food. We couldn't have had better service or atmosphere anywhere else and the meats cheeses and cakes were outstanding. Highly recommended.

Living here for a while, you will discover a true: it is all about the dough. Pizza, panini, piadina, tigele, crescentine, what you put inside will always be amazing. Simple as that. But the dough...ah the dough. That’s the difference of heaven and hell. And this place is a winner about the bread. Nice combinations, simple place. Simpatic people. A winner.

Loved this little place. It’s a great way to sample local meats, cheese and produce with a warming glass of wine or two. We had a huge tasting plate that had very different meats and cheese than we had tasted before. The staff were very involved in letting us know where the items came from in the region, and are extremely friendly. Had to revisit twice we enjoyed it so much.

Tiny and cozy restaurant, placed in the city centre of Bologna, close to the main square, Piazza Maggiore and close to the train station and the most popular monuments. The restaurant suggests traditional cuisine modernized by new matches of flavours and textures. Small wine list focused on local wine with an attention for italian and international wines. A basement set up for event and art Exhibitions.
My wife and I had dinner here and found it to be a bit of a mixed experience. The restaurant is relatively tucked away, quite small but pleasant enough. It takes its name from the Italian painter who specialised in constructing paintings using fruit and vegetables as the artwork. A copy of one of his paintings is inside the entrance. We were offered two tables and made the mistake of choosing one by the coat rack. Unfortunately, this means you are disturbed on a regular basis as customers come and go. Still, it was our choice so I can’t really blame the restaurant for that.
The starters were very promising and my wife had scallop with potato sauce which tasted wonderful. I had the snails and frogs legs. The snails in particular were some of the best I have tasted and I have eaten plenty in France that were not as good as this. For main course my wife had veal escalope and I had saddle of rabbit. The rabbit was very tender and tasted good. Unfortunately, the veal was way overcooked and very dry. We mentioned this when asked by the proprietor what we thought of the dishes.
Service is friendly and attentive and you will be sure of a warm welcome. It was just a pity that one of our dishes did not live up to the standard of the others. We paid €73 for the food and wine was €19 for a decent white. Worth a visit.
