Located in Hitachinaka, Ibaraki Prefecture. It is accessible by bus from the JR Katsuta station. JR Katsuta station is roughly 2.5 hours travel from the Tokyo station on the JR Joban Line.
The seaside park offers magnificent views throughout the year with different floral growths and landscapes along the park, The Summer is famous for the Nemophila - baby blue flowers and the autumn is famous for the pink coloured bush growths along the valley inside the park.
The park is spread out across a huge area and they have restaurants, restrooms, recreational activities like cycling , train rides as well. One side of the park is very close to the sea and offers views of the coastline and the Hitachi Port.
This is a wonderful one day activity on a holiday from Tokyo.

Took the Hitachinaka Seaside Railway to Nakaminato station and picked a hand-drawn map from the station and walked to the fish market.
It was already 3.30pm when I reached and the 5 or so main fresh seafood shops were already starting to clear their wares. There were also cooked seafood stalls and seafood restaurants selling kaisen-don and sushi.
I bought a steamed crab from one of the roadside stalls for 500 yen and also had a late lunch of kaisen don at one of the restaurants.
This fish market is small and no where near Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo. Prices are also more expensive than Tsukiji but still good to visit.
To get here:
1. Take the JR from Mito to Katsuta Station (one stop)
2. Take the Hitachinaka Seaside Railway from Katsuta to Nakaminato
3. Walk for about 10 minutes (get the map from the train station)

A very pristine and calm beach at Ajigaura, Ibaraki Prefecture. It is located close to the Hitachi Seaside park. The beach is accessible from the Ajigaura station served by the Hitachinaka seaside railway and is accessible by Bus from the JR Katsuta station.

I decided to come here as it was indicated as a landmark place to visit from the hand drawn map provided at the Nakaminato train station, and I had some spare time before the next train came. Walked around the town and through a temple (I think it's a temple) grounds to reach this furnace.
The information boards were all in Japanese. Just took some photos and then caught a spectacular sunset.
Nothing fantastic but I guess it should have some historical significance which I cannot read that is indicated on the information boards.
