Gubbio’s history pre-dates the Roman Empire to when it was, as Ikuvium, a major town for the ancient Umbrians. Now a city of 30,000, Gubbio has historical attractions spanning many periods. The 14th-century Palazzo dei Consoli houses Umbria’s largest collection of Roman artifacts. Gubbio’s most important date is May 15. Every year for centuries on that day, the Corsa dei Ceri has taken place: Three teams of twenty, each carrying three large wooden statues, race through the streets.

This building should be on your tick box section. Lots to see and admire. Within walking distance from our hotel. Worth a visit.

This museum is known for its collection of the famous Eugubine Tablets, which are seven bronze sheets that comprise a fundamental epigraphic document of the Umbrian civilization, dating back to the end of the 2nd century BC.
For a start, the museum is placed inside an amazing building that would have been worth visiting regardless of its content.
However, of you like medieval and prehistorical pieces, and don't like eternal journeys inside museums, I certainly recommend this one. It's fast, goes to the point and allows you to see a lot in very little time.
I personally found amazing the internal Fountains and their meaning. The tavole eugubine are also worth taking a look.
Paintings and rugs are average.
You must however reach the higher level to complete you visit with a breathtaking view of the city! Don't miss it.

This is a long hike up or a nice ride on the funicular. We chose the funicular. A pleasant surprise. Church is well preserved and mass was actually going on while we were there. St. Ubaldo is patron saint of Gubbio. The Cheri is kept here for the annual Race/festival. Beautiful stained glass windows and lovely courtyard. Recommend

This place is often described in guide books as being less decorative than other duomos in Umbria. This is a gross mis-observation and misrepresentation of a spectacular building. Well worth a visit and for architects it is a must see edifice

A medieval Roman Catholic church built in gothic style. It was built in 1256 and decoration completed in 1291. The bell tower was constructed in the 14th century. It has a central nave and two lateral ones and octagonal pillars support the vault. You can still see some of the frescoes.

Whether or not one appreciates the ruins, you have got to admire the perfection of proportions, stone beauty of ages preserving the glimpse of what our ancestors built to leave behind and how they lived. I was thinking looking at meticulously laid cobbler stone, what hard work, determination and sense of fulfilment people might had had building a Theater standing in 4 winds in the open field and away from the city. Remarkable and must see to enjoy, appreciate Italians for preserving it for generations to come.

Located on the ground floor of Palazzo dei Canonici
Cask of the Canons. Claimed to be the largest Wine barrel in Europe though I recall seeing equally large wooden Casks in Chateau Montrose in the 70's. This was built before 1500 and contains 20,124 litres of wine.
Thirsty work being a Canon in those days.
Seen from the street.

Built in 1476 AD and restructured at the end of the 15th century, this palace is an important example of Renaissance architecture, with an elegant interior surrounding a courtyard built of stones and bricks.
The outside is a masterpiece of medieval architecture, tall and lofty, standing on the west side of a sweeping square, framed by other elegant period buildings on the other three sides. The atmosphere is amazing.

Friendly staff, a varied menu of authentic local fare, a medieval dining room setting, and wonderful aperitivos, pastas and sauces. They had a good truffle season this Fall which the kitchen infused into a pasta dish that was amazing. Stuffed gnocchi in a cream sauce for those missing their macaroni and cheese. We all liked the experience enough to go back for seconds another day.

The church Sant'Agostino is absolutely an attraction to add on the top list attractions of the city, located far enough away from the center and tourist hub, near the Roman gate. Obviously the highlights of this wonderful church are beautiful paintings and absolutely unmissable.
